Weekdays only, 4 days (10hr flexible shifts: 8‑6p & 10‑8p) no weekends or holidays. Job Summary Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager, the Lead Lactation Coordinator collaborates with other lactation consultants to provide patient care and education (parental, inpatient and outpatient), oversees regulatory processes related to human donor milk, and manages program and submissions related to the organization's Baby‑Friendly designation. Essential Functions Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors. Plan, implement and evaluate the lactation orientation and in‑service programs for nursing, providers, and other staff on an ongoing basis to assure appropriate documentation and skill competency. Organize patient education classes and outpatient lactation resources. Ensure the Human Donor Milk program is in alignment with regulatory agencies via documentation and compliance with established policies and procedures. Direct the baby‑friendly initiative in partnership with WPH providers and administrators to ensure compliance and maintenance of the designation. Collect, analyze, and disseminate data related to infant feeding and best practices. Provide direct patient care as a staff nurse as needed. Utilize appropriate steps in the decision‑making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit‑based issues. Address issues with appropriate actions. Collaborate and communicate with the health care team. Integrate patient rights into work practice. Utilize and monitor methods of infection control. Develop and participate in performance improvement initiatives. Complete competency requirements as well as CERP requirements to maintain IBCLC certification. Attend and participate in mandatory in‑services. Attend and present at staff meetings as required/requested. Utilize cost containment practices. Function as a resource person regarding lactation issues, to hospital staff, physicians and patients. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Qualifications BSN required or MSN 1-3 years. Knowledge of current nursing, lactation, medical and health trends and practices. Registered Nurse, New York – New York State Board of Nursing required. Lactation Consultant Certification – International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) required. BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association required upon hire. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support – American Heart Association required within 180 days. NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program – American Heart Association required within 180 days.
