Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Optometry . The department currently serves as the ophthalmic referral center for eastern Virginia and nearby North Carolina . The primary service area includes more than 2 million individuals encompassing six of the top ten cities by population in Virginia . There is an abundance of patient volume which provides excellent opportunities for advancement in optometry.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye exams including refraction anterior and posterior exams and eye health assessments
• Diagnosis and management of ocular surface disease glaucoma and other ocular diseases and urgent care presentations
• Collaborate with ophthalmology to provide primary eye care
• Perform diagnosis and management of patients for primary eye care
• Additional training in primary eye care contact lens low vision and other specialty areas of optometry is helpful but not required
• Provides patient education for all diagnoses found during examination
• Maintain timely and accurate medical records in accordance with HIPPA and CMS guidelines
• Provide support as needed for the educational mission of the Department
• Provide support as needed for the research mission of the Department
• Perform other duties as determined by the chair of ophthalmology department

Qualifications

Candidates must have an OD degre e and must be Board of Optometry certified or eligible . The incumbent must be committed to a career in academic optometry with an interest in combining clinical practice with education and/or research . Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
