Description To perform paraprofessional clinical duties; establish and maintain client records, gather client data; provide health and community program resource information to clients; perform related work. Typical Duties Interview clients to obtain and document detailed personal data including health and dietary information; compare data with established standards and document in record; explain services and programs; determine client eligibility; use information to establish need and adapt services for clients. Set up clinic for WIC participants; maintain clinic areas using aseptic techniques; monitor lab proficiency testing and equipment standardization; maintain inventory of clinic supplies; obtain and plot growth measurements (heights, weights, lengths); obtain lab samples (hemoglobin), process, and read results. Describe program requirements, review client rights, and responsibilities during the intake process; inform clients of other community health and social service resources; offer and review nutrition information with client based on identified risk codes; explain use of program benefits; provide health and nutrition information to groups and individuals using professionally prepared materials; distribute program outreach materials. Establish and maintain client records; schedule and remind clients of clinic appointments; contact clients about program services; compile data for program reports; maintain inventory of office supplies; type labels and forms; answer telephone and perform receptionist duties; use office computers to collect, store, and retrieve client data. Minimum Qualifications Some knowledge of health and nutritional needs of adults and children. Experience interviewing and eliciting personal information. Experience adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Experience recording information accurately and legibly. Fluent in English and Spanish preferred. Preferred Qualifications High School Diploma or GED certificate. Supplemental Information Incumbent may be exposed to a noisy and crowded work environment, communicable diseases, and to hostile or aggressive clients. Most positions involve lifting and carrying children and objects such as audiovisual equipment, boxes or educational materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
