Job Description SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
The Court Reporter serves as an officer of the court and is independently responsible for producing an accurate, verbatim record of courtroom proceedings using assigned stenographic and voice-writing equipment. Duties include legal transcription, real-time and read-back reporting, and preparing certified transcripts for judges, attorneys, and the public in accordance with Nevada law and court rules. Position Start Date- January 18, 2027 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Experience: Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities.
Certifications: Valid Nevada Certified Court Reporter (CCR) license (NRS 656). Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada driver's license.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Attend courtroom hearings, proceedings, or other events to produce an official verbatim record.
- Prepare, proofread, and certify transcripts for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
- Provide read-back of all or portions of the record during trial and courtroom proceedings upon request of the judge.
- Prioritize and prepare transcripts to meet statutory and court-ordered deadlines; provide transcripts to attorneys or other court officials in a timely manner.
- Monitor court calendars to schedule and provide transcription services as needed.
- Organize, maintain, safeguard, and archive stenographic notes, recordings, and transcript files in accordance with retention requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sealed, juvenile, and other protected records.
- Perform other duties, such as administering oaths or taking court notes.
- Comply with Elko County policies and department procedures.
- Accurately complete work assignments in a timely manner.
- Adhere to the Model Code of Conduct for Court Professionals in the State of Nevada.
- Communicate tactfully, both orally and in writing, with co-workers and the general public.
- Listen carefully and respond appropriately.

- Knowledge of legal terminology and court proceedings.
- Knowledge of Nevada Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure as they pertain to the official record.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Understanding and carrying out complex written and oral communications.
- Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.
- Managing time effectively, including prioritizing multiple transcript requests and deadlines.
- Operating stenographic, voice-writing, and Computer-Aided Transcription (CAT) equipment and software.
- Read and understand criminal and civil complaints, statutes and codes, letters, legal documents, and legal terminology.
- Communicate clearly, both in writing and verbally, in a tactful and courteous manner with defendants, co-workers, and the public in all situations.
- Maintain confidentiality and work independently while demonstrating initiative and sound judgment.
- Comply with District Court procedures and the Model Code of Conduct for Court Professionals in the State of Nevada.
- Act appropriately with individuals who are upset, distraught, or emotional.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
An employee in this position must meet the following physical requirements upon application:
- Work is performed in an office and courtroom setting.
- Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office and reporting equipment.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; sit; use hands, feel, or operate objects or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
