Job Description:\n\nPOSITION OBJECTIVE:\nThrough the lens of Northern’s Leadership Principles, this leader is responsible for inspiring, developing, and leading the Business Development Professionals within their assigned area of responsibility. Responsibilities include enthusiastically role modeling the member advocacy philosophy and taking pride in being the Standard of Excellence, ensuring the team positively represents Northern in the community while driving growth of credit union members and, products and services. This leadership role is responsible for growth of product and services for both consumer and business members as it relates to bringing on employees of targeted businesses. The Business Development Manager will mentor, develop, and provide guidance and support to ensure highly engaged, people-focused internal owners that consistently exceed expectations. This leader will strengthen Northern’s culture by executing strategies and planning resources that successfully enable Northern to be profitable, efficient, and well capitalized in support of Northern’s culture, mission, vision, and strategic direction.\nESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:\nProactively serves as the role model and demonstrates individual commitment to Northern’s growth by:\n-Elevating leadership through a humble, hungry and people smart approach to coaching and mentoring teams.\n-Exhibiting high energy, a positive attitude, creativity, and passion for consistently delivering exceptional member service. \n-Maintaining an active, positive, professional image and reputation for Northern in the community while spreading the Ownership philosophy internally and externally. \n-Researching, developing, and recommending enhancement plans to further promote our Credit Union Culture and to deliver solutions to become the Standard of Excellence. \n -Advocating and role modeling cross-department communication and collaboration by inviting owner participation on teams, listening to owner ideas, holding meetings, and publishing regular announcements. \n-Effectively encouraging individual and group input, listening to ideas, and recognizing behavior and actions that support Northern’s Core Values, Mission and Vision. \n -Maintaining strict confidentiality of all transactions, member information and Credit Union documentation.\nStrengthens Northern’s people-first culture by providing inspirational leadership that leads to an engaged workforce enabling our organization to be profitable, efficient, and well capitalized while demonstrating and creating an “Ownership” atmosphere by:\n-Establishing and communicating clear performance standards along with creating an understanding of the “Why” of the shared vision, developing the team, and holding each team member accountable to be effective with delivering outstanding service to internal and external owners.\n-Consistently role modeling the complete team player mentality while providing leadership that progressively builds confidence and inspires team members to challenge boundaries in pursuit of reaching their maximum potential.\n-Effectively communicating team achievements and successful service accomplishments to internal owners, rewarding team members who deliver upon well-executed plans, inspiring the organization, team, and individual goals to ensure that all actions are driven by positive initiatives.\n-Leading and motivating team members by providing direction on day-to-day tasks in establishing department goals and objectives that meet/exceed the needs of our internal owners, as the primary focus of knowing that consistent outreach and members helped, will follow as a byproduct.\n-Assisting in the overall direction of the team through actions including hiring, department scheduling, one on ones, team huddles, training, meetings, projects, and following department budget requirements to meet short and long-term goals of the Credit Union.\n-Proactively educating Internal and External Owners through effective communication and training to increase knowledge of Business Development initiatives, outreach, and programs.\nActively planning, development and implementation of effective Business Development strategies and programs by:\n-Effectively collaborating with all levels of the organization to establish long and short term strategic objectives.\n-Leading with a strategic mindset in demonstrating a clear understanding of Northern’s member base and current expansion strategies to best identify new opportunities to grow organic partnerships.\n-Proactively leading the creation and execution of an annual comprehensive business development plan.\n-Researching and analyzing environmental, competitive, and business conditions that affect organizational success. -Partnering with the VP Marketing, Business Development and Digital Engagement, ensuring that business development plans, goals, and strategies support established Credit Union-wide objectives. -Formulating and helping manage the business development budget. -Tracking actual versus planned results and reports monthly performance. Instituting corrective measures when necessary.\nEffectively identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with external business partners in order to meet Credit Union objectives through:\n-Driving tangible results as a working manager through referrals and direct production goals for new consumer deposit accounts opened, and new consumer loans opened, all products and service through new and existing SEGS/Business partnerships established through employee onboarding.\n-Regularly achieving individual and organizational sales goals through all available channels.\n-Developing and executing a comprehensive contact program for middle market businesses.\n-Partner with MR and Commercial Leadership teams to plan and execute a strategy focused on growth for the credit union through new account adoption and SEG/business partnership development.\n-Effectively growing, cultivating and monitoring relationships with business partners in chartered community while growing Northern’s product and service base.\n-Proactively coach and observe Business Development team member(s) ensuring an in-depth understanding and ability to clearly articulate Northern’s products and services, market positioning and competitive advantage.\n-Ensuring Business Development team members accurately capture and report business referrals and activities in order to improve market penetration and profitability through Northern’s CRM and Core Process systems.\n-Proactively partners with Relationship Center Leadership and other department leaders to identify and cultivate business opportunities with new and existing member, business, and community relationships,\n-Effectively establishes referral partnerships for Member Relations, Home Lending, Commercial Lending, ensuring a positive servicing experience.\n-Consistently monitoring the local business environment to identify opportunities for future partnerships, as well as product and delivery channel expansion.\nDevelops and executes effective community relations strategies by:\n-Partnering with Member Relationship Leadership in conducting financial seminars and workshops in the local community for local business, organizations, and membership.\n-Partners with Commercial lending as needed and meets with business members’ at their place of business to learn about their industry, identify business owner and employee needs, and provide trusted advisor guidance for need-based solutions.\n-Ensures team members are representing Northern, focused on business development goals, in the communities we serve at events with mutual value.\n-Take advantage of opportunities that Northern’s charitable giving presents and sharing opportunities for community involvement, in coordination with the VP of Marketing, Business Development and Digital Engagement, with the Donations Committee for consideration and approval.\n-Request marketing team support, in coordination with the VP of Marketing, Business Development and Digital Engagement, as needed for planning events related to business development goals.\n-Evaluate the impact and results of you and your team members participation in community events.\n-Proactively seeking opportunities to partner with community organizations to generate goodwill and awareness of Northern and partnering with the VP of Marketing, Business Development and Digital Engagement to bring them to the Marketing Committee and/or Donations Committee for consideration and approval.\nOTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:\n-Ownership Pride, promotes Northern's Core Values throughout the organization. Promotes teamwork within the Credit Union and actively seeks solutions to issues related to member and internal owner expectations.\n-Actively participates in other Credit Union duties, functions, committees, and events as may be reasonably requested, or on a volunteer basis.\n-Provides informed, prompt, professional and accurate communication, service and support to all members and internal owners.\n-Ability and drive to establish and nurture professional business relationships with internal and external members, industry professionals, partners, association groups, service vendors, and other parties as necessary and appropriate in support of Credit Union programs.\n-Achieve and maintain a thorough knowledge of all Credit Union products/services and delivery channels, trends in the Credit Union industry as well as credit union regulations, policies and procedures.\n-Identifies and participates in educational programs such as Cornerstone online training resources, schools and/or conferences to continually develop greater knowledge and expertise in commercial and home lending. Takes initiative for personal career development and seeks opportunities to learn new skills.\n-Reports all suspected fraud activity immediately to the appropriate department.\n-Travel will be required. Valid driver’s license and/or reliable and occasional spontaneous transportation is required.\n-Due to outside sales responsibilities, this position requires outside business development activities in addition to telecommuting from a home based office.\n-Flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays and Sundays as necessary to meet established goals.\n \nQUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE\n-Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Business Marketing or related field is required.\n-5+ years of leadership experience in Sales and/or Business Development is required.\n-Proficient understanding and knowledge of the financial industry is required.\n-Proven ability and maturity to handle confidential/sensitive information in a professional manner is required.\n-Ability to complete work quickly and accurately while achieving effective results in a fast-paced environment. Ability to prioritize a wide range of responsibilities, handle multiple tasks and projects accurately and completely while meeting conflicting deadlines.\n-Must be technologically savvy especially as it relates to self-service options and keeps abreast of evolving consumer needs and trends.\n-Must adapt well to new or non-traditional environments and the changing needs of the organization as well as display a commitment to the community, to increasing member engagement and to Northern’s objectives.\n-A full working knowledge and ability to utilize a broad range of PC-based software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and other internal database programs.\nPhysical Activities and Requirements of this Position\nFinger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.\nTalking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important Instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.\nAverage Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.\nRepetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.\nAverage Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate office equipment.\nPhysical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time (almost all office jobs)\nWorking Conditions: No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
