JOB SUMMARY
The Production Coordinator is responsible for the accuracy and flow of work tickets and material transactions within an assigned production department, from ticket release through closure. This floor-based role works closely with supervisors and operators to maintain current production documentation, verify shop-floor scanning activity, support accurate material transactions, and communicate production status and exceptions to Production Planning. The Production Coordinator helps ensure manufacturing activity is accurately reflected in the company’s ERP and shop-floor data collection systems. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review daily shop-floor scanning activity against open work tickets and identify missed, duplicate, out-of-sequence, or misapplied scans.
- Correct or escalate scan exceptions promptly and verify reported labor and production quantities reconcile to actual output before work tickets are closed.
- Track recurring scanning or transaction errors by operator, work center, and issue type; provide point-of-use guidance to help improve accuracy.
- Print and deliver work tickets with applicable drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and quality requirements ahead of scheduled production start.
- Verify production packets are complete and current; remove and replace superseded revisions so the floor is working from the correct documentation.
- Update and reissue work tickets when engineering, quantity, routing, or rework changes occur; maintain accurate ticket status through completion and closure.
- Issue parts, raw material, and purchased components to work tickets in the ERP according to the BOM and production requirements.
- Verify quantities, units of measure, item codes, and lot or heat identification at the point of material issue.
- Process material returns, scrap, and reissues accurately; identify and report shortages, BOM discrepancies, and transaction issues in a timely manner.
- Support cycle counting and inventory accuracy within department staging and point-of-use locations.
- Serve as the daily link between the assigned production department and Production Planning by communicating work status, blocked versus ready work, material concerns, and other exceptions.
- Coordinate with Purchasing, Receiving, Shipping, and outside-process vendors as needed to support material timing and production flow.
- Follow and help maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs); document ERP configuration and process gaps that surface on the floor; support Sage 100 testing, data validation, and training.
- Crosstrain across production departments to provide coverage while maintaining primary accountability for the assigned area.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support changing business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or technical certificate in manufacturing, supply chain, or industrial technology preferred.
- APICS/ASCM coursework or certification (CPIM or equivalent) preferred.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in a manufacturing production environment.
- Working knowledge of inventory control fundamentals, including BOMs, units of measure, material issue and return transactions, cycle counting, WIP, and how material transactions affect job cost.
- Hands-on experience completing transactions in an ERP or warehouse management system (WMS), such as Sage, NAV, D365, SAP, Epicor, Infor, or a comparable system.
- Ability to read and work from production drawings, routings, BOMs, and work instructions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook; strong accuracy and attention to detail in transactional work.
- Ability to work independently on an active manufacturing floor and communicate effectively with operators, supervisors, and office staff.
Preferred Experience:
- Background in a custom, engineer-to-order, or job shop manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of Sage 100, particularly Operations Management, including work ticket entry, work ticket transaction entry, and inventory issue.
- Familiarity with barcode scanning or shop-floor data collection systems such as Scanco or comparable.
- Background in structural fabrication, welding, modular construction, or skid and process equipment assembly.
- Participation in ERP implementation, conversion, or go-live.
- Cycle counting, inventory audit, or materials coordination experience.
