POSITION: RADIOLOGY TECHNICIAN

RESPONSIBLE TO: Medical Director

SALARY: Step Range: 12 ($40,453) - 31 ($70,934); Full Benefits

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Management, Regular, Full-Time

POSITION OBJECTIVES

Under the direct supervision of the Medical Director, perform radiographic procedures to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. The Radiology Technician works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform routine radiographic procedures as prescribed by physicians for diagnosis of injuries and illness, such as broken bones, sprains, and infectious disease. Contact nursing station to verify patient needs if they are in question on a procedure.

2. Set up and maintain x-ray room, assuring that sterile supplies and accessory equipment are available. Adjust, sterilize, and maintain the medical diagnostic equipment, as well as the room in which the testing takes place. 

3. Assess the patient’s condition prior to performing the radiographic procedure; including checking for possible pregnancy.

4. Explain radiological procedures to patients and instruct them on to the physiological requirements for the procedure.

5. Select and set appropriate radiological technical factors, set up and adjust accessory equipment and determine exposure necessary for the procedure.

6. Position patient, taking into consideration any deformities or physical limitations, injuries of accident victims, and/or serious illness, to ensure the proper view of the affected area.

7. Process radiographs (x-rays); discuss radiological examination with providers as needed.

8. Maintain exam film jackets for storage and retrieval.

9. Fulfill requests for image requests from outside agencies in cooperation with Medical Records.

10. Facilitate overreading images by contracted radiologists.

11. Maintain a lot of patients and procedures utilized.

12. Chart and complete x-ray use data to complete monthly reports.

13. Maintain patient charts in compliance with established facility procedures.

14. Monitor operation of and maintenance of radiological equipment; arrange for inspection and repair as needed. 

15. Actively participate in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the x-ray department.

16. Develop and maintain department operating policies and procedures.

17. Keep abreast of new developments and changes in radiology by reviewing current literature, viewing demonstrations of new equipment and procedures, attending meetings or training sessions.

18. Like all employees of the Klamath Tribes, the incumbent will be called upon to accomplish other tasks that may not be directly related to this position, but are integral to the Klamath Tribes’ broader functions, including but not limited to, assisting during Tribal sponsored cultural, traditional, or community events that enable the successful operation of programs and practices of The Klamath Tribes as aligned with The Klamath Tribes’ Mission Statement. Some of these tasks may be scheduled outside of regular work hours, if necessary.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Work is performed under the general direction of the Medical Director or designee. This position requires consistent, sound judgment and the ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision. The Radiology Technician will work within the context of standing orders and protocols.

Assignments are performed according to instructions and pre-established radiological procedures using set clinical standards. New assignments are provided in detail, as well as changes in current procedures. Major or new issues are referred to supervisor. Work is checked for accuracy, adequacy, and timeliness. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Must possess knowledge of x-ray equipment and radiation protection standards.

Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within radiologic field.

Knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques, including formulas for determining technical factors, control density, contract and distortion, use of intensifying screens, filters, grids and other accessories.

Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.

Knowledge of methods, techniques, and quality control required for processing radiographic film with optimum results.

Skill in obtaining adequate diagnostic x-ray views on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring technical deviation from the norm.

Ability to establish rapport with patients.

Possess good public and interpersonal relationship skills. This person should be able to meet with a variety of individuals in a professional manner, using tact, diplomacy, and mature judgment.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of medical records and adhere to the standards for health record-keeping, HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION

Minimum Qualifications: Failure to comply with minimum position requirements may result in termination of employment.

· REQUIRED to possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent. ( Must submit copy of diploma or transcripts with application.)

2. REQUIRED to have successfully completed a training program in radiologic technology from an accredited school ( Must submit proof of completion with application.)

3. REQUIRED to possess and maintain Radiologic Certification ( Must submit copy of certification meeting credentialing standards in 42 CFR part 75 with application.)

4. REQUIRED to be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). ( Must submit proof of registration with application .)

5. REQUIRED to acquire and maintain BLS certification within 180 days of hire; strongly recommend certification within 90 days of hire, probationary period will be extended for a maximum of 180 days pending certification.

6. REQUIRED to submit to annual TB skin testing and adhere to KTHFS staff immunization policy in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control immunization recommendations for healthcare workers. 

7. REQUIRED to submit to a background and character investigation, as per Tribal policy. Following hire must immediately report to Human Resource any citation, arrest, conviction for a misdemeanor or felony crime.

8. REQUIRED to accept the responsibility of a Mandatory Reporter in accordance with the Klamath Tribes Juvenile Ordinance Title 2, Chapter 15.64 and General Council Resolution #2005 003, all Tribal staff are considered mandatory reporters.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Flexible work schedule with possible on-call coverage is strongly preferred.

· Three (3) years experience working in a clinic setting, preferred.

· Positive working experience with Native Americans in a related field will be given preference.

Indian Preference:

Indian and Tribal Preference will apply, as per policy. ( Must submit tribal documentation with application to qualify for Indian Preference).
