The unit typically contains 16 to 20 beds. The staff-to-patient ratio is 1 to 4. Common patient conditions include sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergency, respiratory failure, and COPD. Other conditions may include chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, substance abuse, status epilepticus, and encephalopathy. Candidates must possess strong clinical skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication and teamwork are essential for success in this role.
