TITLE: High School Intervention Specialist REPORTS TO: Director of Teaching and Learning JOB OBJECTIVES: (Purpose of the position):
The goal of the Intervention Specialist is to guide, coach, mentor, and train teachers in effective instructional strategies with a primary focus on improving student achievement. The
specialist serves as a resource person to classroom teachers in order to ensure that all high schools in the Carroll County School System are continuously progressing toward the vision, goals and objectives of the school district. The role of the specialist is separate and apart from the evaluative role of the principal or supervisor of the teacher. The role of evaluator is the sole responsibility of the principal or supervisor. The specialist position will improve teacher effectiveness in order to increase the academic
achievement of the students in Carroll County Schools. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives): Strategic Goal Area I Student Achievement
1. Maintains appropriate in-depth knowledge of the subject area.
2. Works collaboratively with the Teaching and Learning Directors and high school principals to
read, interpret and apply data (system, school and classroom) to determine best practices
(curriculum, instruction, assessment, and classroom management) with the ability to
teach others to do the same
3. Works collaboratively with the high school Principals to identify teachers or teams of teachers
through the use of data for improvement
4. Works collaboratively with Teaching and Learning Directors, Principals, and
teachers to set appropriate short and long term goals for design, development,
implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
5. Coordinates and establishes procedures to monitor and support on-going implementation
of standards based curriculum, instruction and assessment including Learning Focused
Strategies in all classrooms within the Title I school Strategic Goal Area II - Stakeholder Engagement and Loyalty
1. Provides colleagues with opportunities for sharing that will nurture best practices and
ensure consistency of expectations to support the engagement and achievement of all
learners
2. Communicates effectively with peers, administration, and public
3. Exhibits pleasant behavior and project a positive image when dealing with dealing with
peers, administration, and public Strategic Goal Area III - Efficient and Effective Operational Processes
1. Cultivates and models a respectful working and learning environment
2. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding the progress of identified teachers or teams with
school and/or system level leadership only
3. Communicates effectively with staff
4. Demonstrates and encourages the appropriate use of instructional technology and other
educational tools to enhance and enrich classroom instruction
5. Maintains a monthly narrative and calendar that outlines services provided to Title I
Schools Strategic Goal Area IV - Continuous System and School Improvement
1. Keeps current with, understands, and evaluates current research literature and practice in
the curriculum area to ascertain the most effective teaching/learning, paradigms, and
practices
2. Acts as a subject area resource person for all stakeholders
3. Provides interventions through modeling, team teaching, observing, and follow up
support for the improvement and enhancement of teaching and learning
4. Coordinates and conducts school level professional learning throughout the calendar year
in high schools
5. Works collaboratively with peers, administration and parents to ensure student success
6. Assumes and performs all other specific duties and responsibilities as assigned by
the Directors for Teaching and Learning OTHER EXPECTATIONS:
1. Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia 2. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance /timeliness
3. Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions
4. Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly
5. Maintain confidentiality of information and records for students and staff QUALIFICATIONS
1. Effective written and verbal communication skills
2. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
3. Valid Georgia clear renewable professional teaching certification
4. Highly qualified status as required by ESSA
5. Master's degree in a teaching field preferred
6. Minimum of 5 years successful classroom teaching experience
7. Strong knowledge base of standards based classrooms and best practices in instruction
8. Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and self-directed JOB LOCATION (Place(s) where work is performed):
