Learning Specialist

Applications are now welcomed for a full-time Learning Specialist in the Academic Center for Excellence at Bryant University. This is a 9-month position with excellent benefits. Some late afternoon and evening hours are required. The Learning Specialist is responsible for working with colleagues in the Academic Center for Excellence to coordinate academic support for students. The Learning Specialist meets with students who self-refer for support with their academic challenges and outreach to students who are identified as being academically at-risk. The Learning Specialist works individually with students to develop their academic skills, including time management, organization, reading strategies, test taking, and note taking, and provide workshops for groups of students on these academic skills. Principal Accountabilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing instructional support in a variety of discipline areas, both individually and in workshops for groups of students Assessing students’ academic skills and evaluating student learning strengths, weaknesses, and styles Helping students to develop metacognitive skills, and facilitating student awareness and self-regulation of the learning process Monitoring the academic progress of at-risk students Communicating with staff and faculty in support of students’ learning needs and challenges Using technology to track outreach, support and follow-up with students who are academically at-risk Collaborating with the Office of Accessibility Services to support a caseload of students with learning disabilities and executive functioning challenges with developing academic and organizational skills Qualifications This position is best filled by an individual with: A master’s degree in education, special education, psychology, or a related field. Experience providing academic or executive functioning coaching, advising, learning support, tutoring, or student success services in higher education required. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to effectively engage with students and colleagues Strong organizational, administrative, and technological skills are required to manage a complex caseload Effective presentation skills are needed for workshops and other program presentations Experience working with students who have learning-related disabilities is preferred Experience teaching and tutoring college-level students is preferred At Bryant University, we believe that our strength lies in the richness of our campus community and the unique perspectives that shape it.
