Position Overview The University of California, Irvine (UCI), Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology, Department of Family Medicine seeks a Project Scientist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full rank to support NIH‑funded molecular, computational, and translational research focused on delirium and neuroinflammation. Salary Range Salary range: The salary range for this position is $76,700-$201,900. Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation depending on specialty can range from $76,700-$201,900. The posted UC Salary Scale sets the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. Position Description The Project Scientist will provide advanced expertise in epigenetic analysis, bioinformatics, and multimodal data integration to support studies bridging human biospecimens, neuroimaging, and clinical research. Responsibilities Molecular and Computational Research Perform advanced molecular analyses of human biospecimens, including DNA methylation and other epigenetic datasets. Conduct bioinformatic and statistical analyses to identify molecular signatures associated with delirium and related neuropsychiatric conditions. Lead the planning, standardization, and quality management of handling and processing human biospecimens (including blood and peripheral tissues), with demonstrated wet‑lab expertise required to ensure sample integrity and data quality for genome‑wide assays. Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory protocols for biospecimen processing and molecular data management. Multimodal and Translational Research Contribute to multimodal analyses and integration of clinical data with molecular datasets (including DNA methylation as well as other omics such as RNA‑seq and proteomics) and neuroimaging data (MRI); prior experience with these data types is desirable. Collaborate with research team members to support data interpretation, figure generation, and preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant reports. Assist in developing and maintaining reproducible analytical workflows (preprocessing, QC, statistical analysis, and pipeline implementation) for large‑scale, multi-platform omics, imaging, and clinical datasets. Mentorship and Collaboration Mentor trainees and junior researchers in molecular laboratory techniques, bioinformatics, and computational data analysis. Support collaborative research projects and participate in interdisciplinary research meetings and team‑based initiatives. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) M.D., Ph.D. or equivalent in molecular biology, computational biology, neuroscience, bioinformatics, biomedical science, or a related field.
