Senior Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead the planning, design and delivery of complex water-related projects across flood risk management, drainage, stormwater, rivers and surface water systems. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership from feasibility through to detailed design, construction support and project completion, while contributing to high-quality, sustainable and resilient infrastructure outcomes.


Responsibilities will include preparing and reviewing hydraulic and hydrologic models, flood risk assessments, drainage strategies, water management plans and engineering reports. You will develop technical solutions, undertake options appraisals, interpret survey and environmental data, and produce clear calculations, specifications, drawings and client deliverables. The role will involve managing technical tasks and smaller projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, mentoring less experienced engineers, and liaising with clients, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders. You will also support bids, fee proposals, project planning, quality assurance and the continuous improvement of technical standards and processes.


Applicants should hold a degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, environmental engineering or a related discipline, with substantial professional experience in water resources and hydraulic engineering. Chartered or equivalent professional status, or a clear commitment to achieving it, is desirable. Strong experience with industry-standard modelling and design software, such as 1D/2D hydraulic modelling platforms, GIS and drainage design tools, is expected. You will need sound knowledge of relevant flood risk, drainage, environmental and construction standards, together with strong analytical, report-writing and communication skills. The ability to manage competing priorities, work collaboratively and provide practical, commercially aware advice is essential. A proactive approach, attention to detail and commitment to technical excellence, health and safety, and sustainable design will be highly valued.
