Vice President of People and Culture

San José State University (SJSU) seeks a strategic, collaborative, agile, innovative, human resources leader to be the inaugural Vice President for People and Culture (VPPC). Reporting to the president and serving as a member of the president’s cabinet, the Vice President will lead a highly skilled team that provides a comprehensive range of leading-edge human resources services, solutions, and thought leadership to the university. Further, the VPPC will lead the strategic merger of the units that will comprise the people-and-culture enterprise across campus to enhance the organization’s overall strength and efficiency. The VPPC will foster a culture of excellence centered on the employee experience and lead the Compliance, Talent and Culture, and HR Core Services teams. The VPPC has a unique opportunity to shape and lead university wide strategic people and culture initiatives, engage academic and administrative leaders, enhance compliance and equity efforts, and offer a contemporary focus on human resources service delivery practices, communication, and solutions across San José State University. Key Opportunities Include: Establish and unify the reimagined office of people and culture Strengthen collaboration and community within people and culture Provide strategic leadership and a campus culture of care Lead organizational change management for best-in-class human resources Assume leadership for SJSU implementation of system wide CHRS Develop and foster strong partnership with Provost and academic affairs Ensure campus alignment with system wide compliance and oversight Candidate Profile: The successful candidate will be a highly accomplished leader with a passion for supporting complex, diverse workforces and a record of leading a human resources team through continuous change and improvement. The successful candidate will have experience leading and developing effective HR processes, systems, and policies in hands on and collaborative environments, including with employees represented by unions. They will be a systems thinker working in partnership on leading change management and improving business process efficiency to enhance productivity, accuracy, and efficient workflows while reducing duplication of effort and transactional timelines. They will be a thoughtful and collaborative member of the president’s cabinet, a visible and accessible leader on campus, with thorough and proactive communication to the university community relating to all matters of people and culture. They will have experience in strategic planning, project leadership, organizational development, and implementing best practices in all aspects of human resources for faculty, staff, and students. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $250,000-$305,000 with a generous benefits package designed to support physical, mental, and financial wellness.
