Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (TRAQ) | Placerville, CA

Position Summary ACRT Pacific, LLC. Full time Regular. The Senior Vegetation Management Inspector (SVMI) is a safety‑sensitive role for experienced forestry professionals with an educational background in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, environmental studies, conservation, or related disciplines. The SVMI may support the Vegetation Management Inspector (VMI), performs inspections, audits, and monitors contractor performance, plans, directs, and coordinates tree clearance crews, and serves as a liaison between clients, crews, and customers. The position requires residence within 50 miles of Placerville, CA and a TRAQ Certificate. Duties & Responsibilities Resolve obstacles to allow safe, cost‑effective, efficient, timely, and productive completion of work, including managing time and expenses. Manage day‑to‑day activities to ensure personnel stay focused, scope is achieved, appropriate equipment is used, and documentation is updated. Act as the VM contact for new business and re‑construction work requested by the Energy Delivery organization. With PG&E representative approval, approve scheduling and scope changes in the field. Promote a positive safety culture, perform and document Safety Observations and Good Catches, and ensure all applicable safety rules, regulations and standards are followed. Audit work performed by VMIs to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Assist with training and onboarding of VM Inspectors and support the PGE Work Verification team. Maintain working relationships with public agencies (Caltrans, CalFire, USFS, BLM) and PG&E’s tree contractors for escalated work. Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work to be performed by PG&E’s tree contractor, ensuring clearances meet a minimum of one calendar year. Determine when trimming or removal is required and assess trees for failure likelihood and hazards. Ensure work aligns with PG&E Vegetation Management Standards and Procedures, project specifications, permits, safety requirements, and all applicable federal, state, and local agencies. Use computers to run reports and update data within PG&E’s VMDSRs, and work with software applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Perform quality check audits on assigned VMIs, focus on field compliance and data integrity. Assist in outage investigations, local Divisional Operational Emergency Center (OEC) as Vegetation Resource Coordinator when required, fire and incident investigations, and customer claims investigations. Perform all necessary duties for emergency response in accordance with safety requirements, laws, regulations, and applicable labor agreements. Ensure annual patrols according to the plan and VM patrol standards, document patrols, and report idle and private lines to the PG&E representative. Perform other work as directed by the PG&E representative or PG&E standards and procedures. Equipment, Environmental and Safety Requirements Driving cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment. Walking on uneven ground. Exposure to excessive noise, extreme temperatures, humidity, or wetness. Operation of foot controls or repetitive foot movement. Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, chemicals. Prolong periods of sitting (driving, meetings, trainings). Use of forestry‑related equipment (clinometer, range finder, logger’s tape, DBH tape) and safety gear (hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses). Qualifications TRAQ Certificate. High School diploma or GED. Class C driver’s license. Experience: one of the following Five (5) years as a tree crew climber/tree crew foreman with at least two (2) years of line clearance certification. Five (5) years as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist. Five (5) years as a Registered Professional Forester. Five (5) years as a Utility Inspector or higher classification with at least one (1) year of vegetation management experience. Four (4) years of Military Service with honorable discharge and at least one (1) additional year of vegetation management inspection experience. Approval by PG&E Representative. Required Skills Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates. High level of communication and organization skills. High level of customer service skills. Experience with data collection devices and GIS software (desired). Proficient in Microsoft Office. Self‑motivated, organized, production oriented. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work in varied terrain and inclement weather with flexible schedules. Ability to learn and use company‑ or job‑specific software systems. Ability to read and follow maps. Training Requirements OSHA 30‑hour construction safety overview (within six months of start date). Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP) or Certified Arborist (CA) with a TRAQ certificate (within six months of test eligibility). 911 Standby training (within one month of start date). Working knowledge of QA/QC (within one month of start date). Computer training (e.g., completion of forms, uploading documents, accessing GIS) (within one month of start date). Supervisor Responsibilities Serve as liaison between the client’s representative and Operations Manager to support colleagues and monitor work group progress. Compensation Base Compensation: $52.87 per hour (non‑exempt). An additional in‑lieu benefits amount of $13.22 per hour is paid, resulting in a total compensation of $66.09 per hour.
