Radiologist AssistantProvides advanced clinical, procedural, and patient care support within the Radiology Department under the supervision of a licensed radiologist. Responsibilities include patient assessment, imaging assistance, procedural support, and compliance with Florida regulations, hospital privileging, and accreditation standards. The Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) serves as an advanced-level radiologic technologist supporting diagnostic and interventional radiology services across the hospital and affiliated outpatient sites. This role ensures high-quality patient care, procedural efficiency, and regulatory compliance through direct collaboration with radiologists. All duties are performed within a privilege-based framework, requiring documented competency, supervision, and adherence to Florida law. The RRA does not independently interpret imaging studies and functions strictly under physician supervision.Provide primary clinical and procedural support for all radiology services across assigned facilities. This includes:Perform patient assessment, including history and physical evaluationAssist radiologists with diagnostic and interventional proceduresMonitor patient condition before, during, and after proceduresProvide patient education and post-procedure instructionsDocument patient encounters, progress notes, and discharge summariesPerform imaging and procedural responsibilities as permitted by licensure and privilege. This includes:Perform fluoroscopic procedures (e.g., GI studies, cystograms)Administer contrast media under direct supervisionPerform venography, IVP, and related imaging proceduresEvaluate imaging for quality and completenessCommunicate findings to supervising radiologistProvide assistance and, when privileged, perform advanced procedures under appropriate supervision. These include:Lumbar puncture and myelograms (personal supervision required)Paracentesis and thoracentesisCentral venous catheter placement and exchangesPICC line placementArthrograms, joint injections, and biopsiesGastrostomy tube placementAngiography assistance (radiologist performs vascular access)All procedures require:Approved privilegesDocumented competencyDefined supervision levelProvide medication and contrast support in accordance with physician orders and facility policies:Administer intravascular contrast media (direct supervision required).Administer radiopharmaceuticals if appropriately licensed.Monitor for adverse reactions and complicationsEnsure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and accreditation requirements:Florida Department of Health regulationsHospital bylaws and privileging requirementsJoint Commission and ACR standardsRadiation safety and infection control policiesSupport quality improvement and patient safety efforts:Participate in performance improvement initiativesAssist in incident review and patient safety reportingEnsure accurate documentation and adherence to protocolsProvide operational and clinical support across radiology services:Assist with workflow optimization and patient throughoutCollaborate with radiologists, technologists, and nursing staffSupport training and onboarding of staff as neededGraduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program Completion of an accredited Radiologist Assistant program Active Florida Radiologic Technologist License ARRT certification in Radiography ARRT Radiologist Assistant certification (R.R.A. or CRA) Additional certification required for nuclear medicine duties (if applicable) Masters or Doctoral Degree - required Masters in Radiologic science program prepares you to become an advanced - practice provider specifically trained in medical imaging procedures and patient management.
