Public Health Pre-Registered Dietitian

The Job

The Department of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for Pre-Registered Dietitians who plan, develop, implement, and evaluate community nutrition programs for targeted populations. Pre-Registered Dietitians work under close supervision while waiting to take the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics examination for registration as a Registered Dietitian. Immediate vacancies exist within the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. The list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur. Travel throughout the County may include multiple offices within a specified region, such as the High Desert (e.g., Victorville, Barstow), Low Desert (e.g., 29 Palms, Yucca Valley), and surrounding San Bernardino areas. Pre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a background investigation which includes verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, physical exam, and drug screening. Visa Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future. Dietitian Registration: Upon successfully obtaining a Dietitian Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, incumbent may be eligible to promote to the Registered Dietitian classification.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following qualifying options:

Option 1: Possession of a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutrition Science, Food and Nutrition, Food Science, Nutrition and Health, Community Nutrition, Home Economics with Nutrition emphasis, or a closely related field of study. -OR- Option 2: Registered Dietitian (RD) Examination Eligibility**: Applicant must complete all academic and supervised practice requirements to meet the eligibility requirements to take the RD examination as set forth by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. ( IMPORTANT: The Authorization to Test email received from Pearson VUE, CDR's testing agency, confirming that CDR has validated your eligibility requirements and has approved you to take the RD examination, must be submitted with the application if qualifying under option 2.)

HR is also accepting applications for Registered Dietitian. If you already possess current registration as a Registered Dietitian with the CDR, you may be eligible for the journey-level Registered Dietitian position, which requires a separate application.

Desired Qualifications

Applicants who are eligible to sit for the Registered Dietitian examination are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.

Examination Procedure: There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on the information provided in the Application and the Supplemental Questionnaire. You are encouraged to include detailed descriptions of your qualifying experience and skills, as only the most highly qualified applicants will be referred to the Department.
