Job Description Patrick & Henry Community College is seeking a professional and team-oriented individual committed to the mission of the comprehensive community college with the demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population, including adult learners, traditional students, dual enrollment students, and at‑risk students. The successful candidate will teach Biology and Anatomy and Physiology to this diverse student population. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist with retention strategies, maintain a professional attitude toward teaching and professional relationships, ensure compliance with all policies and procedures of the College and the Virginia Community College System, create a student-oriented learning environment, evaluate student learning in assigned courses, advise students, and demonstrate a genuine interest in the general welfare of all students. Instructors are responsible for specified hours of student engagement and attending faculty, division, and committee meetings. Responsibilities may include work during the day and/or evening teaching classes for students, as well as providing instruction to online students. Other duties include but are not limited to: Mentoring adjunct faculty as appropriate by sharing information, advice, and materials. Reviewing curriculum of courses and programs and revising and updating course content as necessary. Executing attendant responsibilities for all assigned classes, for all committee designations, and for all other activities agreed upon between the faculty member and administration. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. Qualifications A master’s degree in biology (or biology field of study) or a master’s degree with 18 credit hours in biology is required. Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (through oral and written communication) with students, colleagues, and other constituencies. Ability to use appropriate instructional technology and to conform to digital accessibility requirements. Transcripts are required as part of the application process for any college coursework.
