About the Role
The Company is seeking an Assistant General Counsel with a strong background in civil rights and a deep commitment to the preservation of those rights. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing the delivery of legal services to the agency, including overseeing the work of attorney and non-attorney staff, drafting and arguing legal motions, and supervising legal actions in various forums. This role requires extensive legal research, the ability to apply the law to complex issues, and a proactive approach to recommending and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. The Assistant General Counsel will also be involved in the review and development of legal agreements, as well as the drafting of proposed regulations and legislation. Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years' of experience as a licensed attorney, with a preference for those who have worked in civil rights and justice-oriented positions. A Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) may be substituted for one year of the required experience. The role demands a candidate who is passionate about civil rights and the belief that all individuals deserve equal treatment, particularly in the areas of housing, employment, and public accommodation. The Assistant General Counsel will be expected to travel and work in both office and courtroom settings, and must be admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or comply with specific Kentucky Supreme Court rules.
