Job Title: General Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role supports a 56-building campus in Nashua, NH by performing a wide range of general maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks across residence halls, academic buildings, administrative facilities, and common areas. The General Maintenance Technician works Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and plays a key role in ensuring that campus facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. The position requires strong technical abilities in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and building maintenance, as well as a commitment to responsive customer service in an active campus environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine building maintenance and repair work throughout campus facilities, including residence halls, academic buildings, administrative spaces, and common areas.
• Replace light bulbs, lighting components, and related fixtures to maintain proper illumination and safety.
• Replace ceiling tiles, door hardware, locks, and door closers to ensure proper operation and security of building access points.
• Troubleshoot and resolve general building issues and service requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Complete preventative maintenance activities and assigned work orders using appropriate tools, equipment, and procedures.
• Assist with furniture moves and campus support projects, including rearranging or relocating furnishings as needed.
• Set up and break down tables, chairs, and equipment for campus events and activities.
• Clear clogged drains using plungers, snakes, and hand augers to restore proper drainage and prevent water damage.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs and fixture replacements, including faucets, valves, and other basic components.
• Replace flushometer batteries, sensors, and related restroom components to maintain reliable restroom operation.
• Install bathroom accessories, mirrors, dispensers, and fixtures in restrooms and other facility areas.
• Support licensed trades personnel, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing staff, by assisting with installations, repairs, and maintenance tasks as needed.
• Participate in an on-call rotation schedule to respond to after-hours maintenance issues and emergencies.
• Assist with snow removal operations, including shoveling, operating snow blowers, applying salt, and performing ice mitigation to maintain safe walkways and entrances.
• Work overtime and respond to emergency situations when needed to support continuous campus operations.
• Use hand tools and basic power tools safely and effectively to perform maintenance, repair, and installation tasks.
• Interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, or instructions when completing maintenance or installation work.
• Document completed work, communicate status updates, and coordinate with team members and supervisors as needed.

Essential Skills

• Experience as a maintenance technician or general maintenance technician in a facilities, industrial, or building maintenance environment.
• Hands-on skills in general building maintenance, including basic carpentry, drywall repair, painting, and fabrication.
• Ability to perform basic plumbing tasks such as clearing drains, replacing fixtures, and working with flushometers and restroom components.
• Basic electrical skills, including replacing lighting components and working safely around electrical systems and circuits.
• Familiarity with HVAC systems and the ability to support licensed HVAC personnel with maintenance and repair tasks.
• Ability to read and work from blueprints, diagrams, or electronic circuit documentation at a basic level.
• Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve general mechanical, building, and facilities issues.
• Proficiency using hand tools and basic power tools safely for installation, repair, and maintenance work.
• Capability to perform preventive maintenance tasks and follow established maintenance schedules.
• Physical ability to lift, move, and set up furniture, tables, chairs, and equipment as required.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and work overtime or emergency response hours when needed.
• Ability to work effectively in occupied residential halls and active campus environments while providing courteous customer service.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience supporting licensed trades such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing personnel in a facilities setting.
• Experience in construction, industrial maintenance, or facility maintenance environments.
• Experience with lighting systems, motors, and basic electronic circuits.
• Skill in painting, drywall patching, and general interior and exterior repair work.
• Experience installing fixtures, accessories, and building components using appropriate tools and methods.
• Comfort working independently as well as part of a facilities team to complete assigned work orders and projects.
• Strong communication skills to interact with campus occupants, respond to service requests, and coordinate with colleagues.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work orders, and complete preventive maintenance on schedule.

Work Environment

The role is based on a multi-building campus in Nashua, NH and involves working primarily Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with additional overtime and on-call responsibilities as needed. You will work across residence halls, academic buildings, administrative offices, and common areas, frequently in occupied spaces and active residential environments. The work includes both indoor and outdoor tasks, such as general maintenance, event support, and seasonal snow removal using shovels, snow blowers, and ice mitigation materials. You will regularly use hand tools, basic power tools, and standard maintenance equipment while following safety procedures. The position requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, and working in a variety of facility conditions, including mechanical rooms, restrooms, and exterior walkways. Dress typically aligns with a maintenance or facilities setting, emphasizing practical, durable clothing and appropriate footwear suitable for both indoor and outdoor work.

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $56160.00/yr.
