Unit: SONU (Ortho/Neuro/Surg)

Unit Type: Medical Surgical

Job Details

Shift: Nights
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Years of Experience Required: 1 year

Qualifications

BLS Certification
NIHSS Certification
Telemetry reading experience is preferred

Responsibilities

Manage and titrate various intravenous (IV) drips, including Heparin, Ketamine, antibiotics, and blood products.
Oversee frequent IV treatments for patients.
Collaborate with telemetry/monitor technicians who will assist in reading cardiac strips.
Provide care for patients requiring BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula support.

Staffing and Support

Charge Nurse available to act as a resource, typically not assigned patient care responsibilities.
Care team includes Nurse Aides with a typical ratio of 1:8-12. Some assistants may help with procedures such as IV and Foley catheter removals.

Scheduling and Shifts

Shift Times: 06:45 - 19:15
Self-scheduling option available, with flexibility encouraged.
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week period.
Holiday work may be required.

Additional Requirements

Willingness to care for patients diagnosed with COVID-19.
This is a fast-paced unit with a high turnover rate.
Nurses will be equipped with phones and tracking devices for efficient communication and task management.
Overtime opportunities may be available as needed.
Potential for precepting opportunities for experienced nurses.

Orientation

New staff will undergo a unit-specific orientation lasting 2-3 shifts during their first week.

Scrub Policy

Navy blue scrubs with an official logo are required for all personnel.
