Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.Position Information Job Series: Corrections Programs – Career-pathClassification: Inmate Hearing OfficerClass Code: SCP16PPay Grade: SGS06Salary Range: $52,137 - $77,163Job Summary The Inmate Hearing Officer is a critical role within the Arkansas Department of Corrections, responsible for overseeing disciplinary hearings and conducting fair and impartial reviews of inmate conduct. This position ensures that due process is followed, facilitating a just and consistent approach to inmate discipline. The Inmate Hearing Officer evaluates evidence, listens to testimony, and makes decisions regarding the imposition of sanctions for inmate misconduct. The role requires strong knowledge of correctional law, state regulations, and the ability to apply policies in a fair and unbiased manner. This position also works closely with facility management, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure that hearings are conducted in accordance with legal and institutional standards.Primary Responsibilities Conduct inmate disciplinary and administrative hearings in compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards. Review and evaluate evidence, testimony, and documentation related to disciplinary cases. Ensure that hearings are conducted fairly, and that due process is provided to all parties involved. Make informed decisions and recommendations based on evidence and testimonies presented during hearings. Maintain accurate records and documentation of hearing proceedings, decisions, and outcomes. Collaborate with facility staff, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of disciplinary decisions. Provide training and support to facility staff on hearing procedures and due process requirements. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards related to inmate hearings. Address and resolve inmate complaints and concerns related to the hearing process. Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge and Skills Comprehensive understanding of correctional practices, policies, and procedures. In-depth knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing inmate hearings and due process. Familiarity with evidence evaluation and legal procedures. Awareness of state and federal laws and regulations governing corrections. Ability to make fair and impartial decisions based on evidence and testimonies. Capacity to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Aptitude for maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information. Capability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.Minimum Qualifications The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in correctional security, or related area.Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series.
