Position Overview Title: Instructor, Computer Science Department: Instructional Services Reports To: Director of Technology Center FLSA Status: Exempt Date Posted: 7/20/2026 | Date Available: 8/24/2026 | Closing Date: 8/01/2026 Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, business education, mathematics, or a related discipline with prior student‑teaching experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid SC Teaching License (any applicable area) Current government‑issued identification General Summary Under general supervision, instructs students in areas of computer science such as robotics, computer programming, game design & development, web design & development, virtual reality, software development, and information technology. Essential Functions Supports and upholds the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One toward increased outcomes for students. Interacts, communicates, and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively. Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment. Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities. Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information. Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required. Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment, and materials. Teaches STEM concepts and skills from a variety of computer science fields and areas represented in the South Carolina Career and Technology Education career clusters. Prepares students for appropriate industry certification exams. Develops practical problem‑solving skills related to the materials and processes of the industry. Instructs students in the proper use, care, and operation of technology and robotics equipment. Demonstrates a variety of 21st‑century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. Designs and facilitates engaging, high‑level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st‑century global, knowledge‑based economy. Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, competency forms, and discipline reports. Organizes classroom and laboratory areas for daily instruction. Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment, and tools. Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; analyzes assessment data in relation to student learning and develops instructional strategies to close the learning and performance gap; evaluates contributions in group projects. Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development. Instructs and coaches students in the rudiments of obtaining and retaining a job; stays informed of current entry‑job requirements; completes job references for students when requested. Recruits professionals in the business field to serve on the annual advisory committee; meets semi‑annually to solicit input from community partners regarding current issues and employment opportunities. Meets with parents, administrators, and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, activities, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents of students' progress. Actively serves as a FBLA, SkillsUSA, or Robotics advisor in preparing students for competition and leadership opportunities and chaperones trips to conferences and events. Performs other job‑related duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibility Supervises students in classroom and lab situations. Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable). Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; reports equipment malfunctions. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Ability to access reliable transportation. Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e‑mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self‑monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with team members. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation promptly and according to scheduled deadlines. Computer literacy required. Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of this position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co‑workers, teachers, students, and the general public. Physical Demands The employee will occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and sometimes push or pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, and reach with hands and arms. The position may require occasional irregular or extended hours, frequent use of a computer monitor, and related equipment. Work Environment The work environment is a classroom setting with noise levels ranging from quiet to loud depending on the activity. The employee may have minor exposure to environmental conditions, occasional travel, and overnight travel may occasionally be required. General office, technology, and robotics equipment will be used in daily duties. Evaluation Performance of this job is evaluated annually in accordance with Board Policy.
