Staff Scientist

The Torre laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced Staff Scientist to lead projects on the mechanistic basis of chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) and its pathophysiologic overlap with neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. The Staff Scientist will be primarily responsible for designing and executing Drosophila and mouse model experiments and related downstream molecular assays. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in use of the aforementioned model systems who can independently manage projects, troubleshoot complex experiments, and train junior members of the team. Job Duties Lead mechanistic studies of Drosophila and mouse models of CRCI and neurodegenerative disorders, together with PI and other lab members. Design, execute, and validate Drosophila and mouse experiments and perform downstream assays. Perform advanced cellular and molecular analyses (e.g. immunocytochemistry, confocal microscopy, qPCR, Western blot). Maintain highly detailed and accurate records of all experimental procedures and results in a lab notebook. Analyze and interpret data, prepare figures, and present findings clearly to the PI and lab group. Train and mentor graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research technicians, and undergraduates in use of Drosophila and mouse model systems and cellular and molecular analyses. Assist with lab management duties, including reagent ordering, stock maintenance, and ensuring protocol compliance. Assist in grant writing. Perform other job related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree. Three years of post doctoral research experience. Department Specific Criteria Extensive hands-on experience with use of Drosophila and mouse model systems. Demonstrated expertise in designing and successfully executing advanced cellular and molecular assays. Strong analytical skills and experience with relevant data analysis software (e.g., ImageJ, GraphPad Prism). Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and trainees simultaneously.
