No routine night shifts After-hours call is performed from home and shared among providers on a rotating basis. Position Overview We are seeking a Staff Psychiatrist - Inpatient to provide direct psychiatric care to patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) at the Skyview Unit in Rusk, Texas. This is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity offering a structured Monday-Friday daytime schedule, competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and access to Texas public-sector retirement benefits. The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a secure correctional healthcare environment and providing care to patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of assigned patients. Conduct psychiatric, physical, and neurological examinations. Develop and manage individualized treatment plans. Participate in voluntary admission and compelled psychoactive medication proceedings. Participate in civil commitment proceedings when required. Provide clinical supervision to psychiatric advanced practice providers as assigned. Provide emergency psychiatric consultation and participate in rotating after-hours call coverage. Participate in Psychiatry Quality Improvement/Quality Management programs. Collaborate with medical, mental health, nursing, utilization review, and correctional healthcare teams.
