What You'll Do You will lead the VGOV Advanced Electronics organization as a working leader, guiding a multidisciplinary division that includes Hardware/Digital, Programmable Logic (PL), and Specialty Engineering while also contributing technical expertise directly to projects, proposals, and business initiatives. Ensure engineering resources are aligned with evolving VGOV development needs and make balanced decisions that benefit engineers, product and program teams, the business, and Viasat. Support programs and business development by providing technical knowledge, shaping solutions, driving execution, and securing future opportunities. Serve as a trusted mentor and technical resource across the division. Engineering Disciplines You Will Oversee Hardware / Digital Engineering Design digital circuitry such as discrete logic, pulse‑width modulators, microprocessors, microcontrollers, ADCs/DACs, memory subsystems, FPGAs, and high‑speed interfaces typically integrated onto PCBs. Programmable Logic (PL) Engineering Implement complex digital functions within FPGAs using HDL languages such as Verilog and VHDL; work on synchronous/asynchronous interfaces, signal processing, cryptography, modems, and related tasks. Specialty Engineering Disciplines Power & Analog Engineering – Design analog circuitry, power converters, and modular power supplies. Design Verification Engineering – Develop tools and methodologies to simulate, detect, and mitigate design issues in FPGAs and ASICs, ensuring compliance to specifications. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineering – Create signal‑processing algorithms for communications and radar, and partner with PL engineers to implement them on FPGAs. Design Implementation (Backend) Engineering – Convert RTL and higher‑level functional descriptions into physically realizable integrated circuits through full backend design flows. Radiation Engineering – Analyze and test susceptibility of components and systems to space radiation effects (SEUs, TID, etc.). Parts, Materials & Process (PMP) Engineering – Define processes for part selection, screening, testing, failure analysis, and long‑term parts management. PCB Fabrication Engineering – Provide fabrication expertise and failure analysis, influencing PCB stack‑ups, materials, and layout considerations. The Day‑to‑Day Lead the evolution of the VGOV Development Engineering organization as Viasat grows. Manage a geographically dispersed team of engineers and managers. Ensure organizational capabilities align with current commitments and future roadmaps. Recruit and staff HW‑PL‑Specialty teams efficiently and strategically. Continuously improve engineering processes and adopt industry best practices. Implement fair performance management, recognition, and accountability across the division. Define clear expectations for managers, foster career development, and coach engineers. Serve as a strong technical resource for teams and programs. Perform hands‑on technical work that directly impacts programs, proposals, and engineering quality. Technical Contributions Provide expert support for complex design challenges, failure investigations, and critical reviews. Conduct focused technical assessments across digital, PL, power/analog, or specialty areas. Support key program activities such as architecture reviews, design reviews, integration efforts, and risk assessments. Contribute to technical approaches, proposals, estimates, and customer discussions. Evaluate emerging tools and methods, perform feasibility checks, and influence long‑term technology roadmaps. Guide or approve major technical decisions and ensure alignment of execution, program needs, and business priorities. What You'll Need Demonstrated success leading engineering teams and managers. Strong technical competence within your primary discipline, with broad understanding across others. Strategic thinking and ability to translate strategy into execution. Data‑driven mindset, skilled at forming meaningful questions and using data for decisions. Experience collaborating with distributed teams across time zones, functions, cultures, and disciplines. Genuine optimism about VGOV and Viasat’s future and a commitment to shared success. Up to 10% travel. US citizenship required. What Will Help You On The Job 10 years experience managing dispersed engineering teams. Active U.S. Secret Clearance or higher. Salary Range $177,500.00 – $280,000.00 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area, and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range is $220,500.00 – $330,500.00 annually. Base pay may vary based on qualifications, and additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package.
