Position Summary Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospital – The veterinarian is the most immersive role in the hospital, delivering quality care, supporting a skilled team, and leading patient treatment. The role includes clinical responsibility for diagnosis, treatment, surgical, and dental procedures, and teaching. Essential Job Functions Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care tailored to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. Utilize a problem‑based approach: develop a problem list for each patient, list differential diagnoses, create a diagnostic plan, and prescribe appropriate treatments based on test results. Document patient observations, exam findings, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses in the medical record concisely and with detail. Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and mass removals. Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examinations, evaluations of dental radiographs, simple and complex extractions, and oral surgical procedures. Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization, transition patients to overnight care as needed, and communicate with referral hospitals for continuity of care. Other Duties and Responsibilities Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at the beginning and end of shifts. Share knowledge with staff to improve patient care and client communication. Perform additional duties as assigned. Education & Experience Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school. Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state of the hospital or ability to obtain by start date. Current DEA license. Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable, in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date. USDA Category I accreditation (minimum) or completion within two months of hire date. Comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries, including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Compassionate, maintaining a professional attitude during stressful situations. Telephone and computer skills. Team player willing to learn new techniques, offer creative ideas, and accept change. Work Environment The majority of duties are conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full‑service hospital. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds as necessary), and standing for long periods. A substantial portion of time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
