Telephone Dispatch Operator (PRN; Variable Hours) - New Orleans East Hospital

Overview As a Communications Operator you are the critical connection point for the entire hospital. You keep patients, visitors, staff, and emergency response teams connected 24/7 by answering calls, paging announcements, and handling emergency alarms. What You’ll Do Answer and route incoming and outgoing calls with professionalism and care Monitor and respond to emergency alarms and hospital codes Utilize overhead paging for hospital communication needs Support staff, patients, and visitors during emergency situations Operate switchboard and communication equipment efficiently Maintain pager systems and coordinate urgent communications Help ensure a safe and organized environment for staff and visitors What Makes You Great in this Role You stay calm and focused in high‑pressure situations You can multitask while maintaining attention to detail You communicate clearly and professionally at all times You enjoy being the behind‑the‑scenes person who keeps things moving You can adapt quickly in a 24/7 healthcare environment What You Bring Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to handle emergency calls with professionalism and urgency Comfort working in a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, AMs, and PM shifts as needed Experience with PBX, call center, or healthcare communication (plus) Minimum Requirement High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent experience). Previous customer service, PBX, or call center experience preferred.
