A Concrete Finisher is a craft hourly-rated employee who can expertly pour, level, and smooth concrete on a variety of surfaces including roads, sidewalks, curbs, bridge decks, and floors. He may also be required to set the forms that hold the concrete in place, patch existing surfaces, cut expansion joints, and monitor the curing of the concrete to ensure a high-quality finish.

Responsibilities include setting forms that hold the concrete in place and remove them accurately once the concrete is set, cleaning and inspecting surfaces for pouring issues, directing the casting of the concrete with the truck driver or pump operator, pouring, smoothing, and leveling concrete using a rake, trowel, float, and screed, monitoring the effects of the weather on the curing process, applying sealing, curing, and hardening components, safely operating power vibrator to ensure the concrete is compacted, molding and constructing expansion joints using joiners and edging tools, and polishing surface using a power surfacing machine. Removing existing concrete using grinders, electric chipping hammers, or heavy-duty pneumatic jack hammers is also part of the role.

Education and work experience requirements include 1-year construction related experience (concrete work and finishing) and completion of high school or secondary education is preferred.

Qualifications required include the skills necessary for the trade, familiarity with the latest concrete pouring technology, the ability to work shifts, if necessary, over weekends and at night, physical fitness to stand for long periods of time, work on knees, lift heavy materials, and work outdoors in high heat and cold weather.
