Summary: The pediatric neurology APC serves as a clinical resource and an independent provider assisting the pediatric neurology service by managing outpatients with various neurological conditions, including (but not limited to) workup and treatment (including patient/family education) for epilepsy, migraine, developmental delay, cerebral palsy.

Presbyterian Medical Group seeks an experience Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Pediatric Neurology Practice to join our established practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our team of two Child Neurologists is seeking an NP or PA to join our thriving pediatric multispecialty clinic.

Dedicated to family-centered Care, the Children's Center at Presbyterian encompasses both inpatient and outpatient services for specialty pediatric care. Our dedicated pediatric intensive care, pediatric inpatient unit, NICU and multispecialty clinic are all co-located at our flagship campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Responsibilities:
*Completes a comprehensive health assessment including an appropriate health history (chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history, family history, social history, review of systems, and pain history) and physical exam on newborns and pediatric patients in the outpatient setting.
*Determines the need for and interprets the results of relevant screening and diagnostic tests.
*Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and diagnostic reasoning abilities to formulate a diagnosis by critically analyzing history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests.
*Modifies assessment techniques according to patient's condition, culture, age, and stage of development.
*Effectively communicates health findings and/or the diagnosis of a health condition to the patient, discusses the prognosis and options for treatment for the condition, and then establishes a mutually acceptable plan of care with the patient/family.
*Manages acute and chronic health conditions by providing effective pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions; assists patients in following the plan of treatment, and selects the appropriate best practice treatment.
*Prepares written prescription orders, medications, and controlled substances under the rules and regulations of the State of NM and the Federal DEA.
*In conjunction with the pediatric neurologists, initiates timely and appropriate consultation, referral or collaboration with other healthcare providers and/or members of the health care team.
*Determines the need for and implements health promotion strategies for patients considering specific age and cultural requirements in accordance with population health principles to reduce risk factors and prevent disease.
*Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills for patients of various ages and cultures, and also has the ability to develop appropriate and professional rapport with patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
*Maintains patient medical records as required by hospital and regulatory agencies.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description:
Masters Degree NM Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) or PA-C License For Nurse Practitioner - Masters degree in Nursing, New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license and AANPCB certification required. For Physician Assistant - Baccalaureate prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant, and licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners required. Experience performing neurologic exams in children, including funduscopic examination.
If no previous specific experience in pediatric neurology, must show a willingness to learn and interest in working to become familiar with neurologic diagnoses, specifics of anti-seizure medications, and specifics of other treatment options. Must be able to work and learn independently.
