Full-Time Leadership | Evening Shift 2PM-10PM (Flexible) | Up to $150,000 Annual Salary | Relocation Available
Lead a 97-bed Level III NICU with 75 daily census at a 360+ bed multi-specialty hospital in Austin, Texas, home to a comprehensive children's hospital and women's center. This NICU Manager role oversees 150 FTEs providing high-quality, patient-centered neonatal care in one of the largest healthcare systems in Texas and third-largest Austin-area employer. The facility offers advanced services including kidney transplant, robotic surgery, 24-hour emergency care, heart and vascular care, neurology, and comprehensive maternal-fetal medicine. The evening shift schedule (2PM-10PM, 5 days weekly) offers flexibility and leadership visibility during critical care hours. Responsibilities
- Ensure high-quality, patient-centered neonatal care through oversight of daily function and staffing of 97-bed Level III NICU with 75 daily census.
- Monitor and evaluate provision of nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures while holding staff accountable for quality outcomes.
- Create superior clinical identity by operationalizing evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and quality outcomes in neonatal care.
- Support efforts to reduce clinical practice variation and improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost while ensuring accountability and transparency.
- Support achievement of internal/external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations including Level III NICU standards.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards for neonatal intensive care.
- Manage admissions and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and seamless transitions for critically ill neonates and families.
- Facilitate effective interdisciplinary care coordination within NICU and across departments ensuring appropriate clinical competencies.
- Ensure equipment maintenance performed regularly according to regulatory and accreditation standards for neonatal technology.
- Provide leadership in attaining unparalleled patient and family experience, instilling accountability for consistent positive interactions.
- Review feedback mechanisms and identify opportunities to improve patient/family satisfaction and elevate NICU experience.
- Leverage benchmarking data to identify performance improvement opportunities and implement evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with neonatologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, and leaders to create teamwork environment supporting improved outcomes.
- Identify development opportunities and training needs for individual employees and NICU teams managing 150 FTEs.
- Support organizational mission through partnership between national healthcare organization and local non-profit foundations.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program (required)
- Current Texas RN license or active multi-state compact license (must apply for TX license within 60 days if compact, obtain within 6 months)
- Minimum 3-5 years of healthcare experience
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in acute care setting
- NICU specialty certification required within 6 months of hire
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Strong leadership, communication, and neonatal critical care expertise
- Availability for evening shift (2PM-10PM) 5 days weekly with flexibility
Preferred:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) certification
- RNC-OB (Obstetric certification) or neonatal specialty certification
- Previous NICU management or leadership experience in Level III units
