Field Director, San Diego

Overview Position: Regional Leader – Banfield Pet Hospital (San Diego Market). Based in Banfield Pet Hospital's San Diego market. Internal applicants should apply via Workday. Responsibilities Ensure hospitals deliver on performance, achieving OGSMs through Five Principles, the Associate Concept, and direct leadership. Hire, coach, and develop Practice Managers. Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality (DVQ) and Area Chiefs of Staff to operate an effective, productive hospital team. Ensure a safe and engaging hospital environment and improve medical quality and business performance. Create and build a culture of Preventive Care in each hospital, ensuring teams understand foundational delivery of Optimum Wellness Plans. Develop, coach, and support each Practice Manager in the market to lead hospital teams for high quality care and service, maximizing efficiency, productivity, and profitability. Coach paraprofessionals, providing clear communication on expectations and performance. Ensure compliance with practice protocols, policies, procedures, and all local, state, and federal laws. Maintain hospital safety and cleanliness (OSHA, Hazard Waste, permits, asset protection audits). Enforce Banfield standards and continuously build the brand with medical and non‑medical standards. Lead overall hospital leadership and paraprofessional retention within the market. Develop performance development plans (PDPs) and conduct formal reviews of each Practice Manager at least once per year. Create a culture of exceptional engagement and community with market doctors, veterinary technicians, and leaders. Support DVQ and ACOS in maximizing doctor engagement and retention. Execute OGSM performance including financial results and quality KPIs. Recruit, hire, coach, supervise, and mentor PMs, Veterinary Technicians, and paraprofessionals. Support DVQ in recruiting, hiring, coaching, and supervising doctors. Manage market quarterly inventory and hospital invoice approvals. Manage effective doctor scheduling and ensure paraprofessional scheduling aligns with business needs. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions 80% travel. Must live in assigned region with ability to maintain a home office. Long periods at computer and potentially more than 40hours per week. Physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and manipulating up to 50pounds. Requires good hand‑eye coordination, arm‑hand‑finger dexterity, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment. Noise level normally moderate. Pets are present in the environment. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Five years’ experience in a multi-location service industry. At least three years of line manager experience. Experience hiring, staffing, leading a variety of people, and developing next‑level leaders (preferred). Medical background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) preferred. Compensation Salary range: $124,735.28 – $179,678.35. Pay determined by experience, skill level, abilities, and education.
