The Skilled Nursing Facility plays a vital role in supporting Villagers with complex medical needs while promoting independence, quality of life, and meaningful relationships. Position Purpose
The Director of Nursing provides overall clinical leadership for Annandale Village’s Skilled Nursing Facility, ensuring Villagers receive high-quality, person-centered nursing care in a safe, compliant, and supportive environment.
This role is responsible for leading nursing operations, supervising nursing leadership and staff, maintaining regulatory readiness, supporting quality outcomes, and ensuring strong communication across the interdisciplinary team. The Director of Nursing serves as the facility’s certified Infection Preventionist and is responsible for overseeing the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
The Director of Nursing also holds primary responsibility for nursing staffing and scheduling strategy, ensuring coverage supports quality care, team accountability, and operational effectiveness. This position provides oversight of the MDS process as Annandale’s internal MDS champion and primary liaison with Beacon, Annandale’s outsourced MDS partner.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Leading Clinical Care and Resident Outcomes
- Direct the overall operations of the Nursing Services Department while ensuring safe, effective, and person-centered care for Villagers.
- Oversee clinical assessments, care planning, treatment oversight, and quality outcomes.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and coordinated care across the continuum of services.
- Support admissions, discharges, transfers, and other resident care transitions.
Leading and Developing the Nursing Team
- Provide leadership and supervision to RN Supervisors, licensed nurses, and CNAs.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance development of nursing staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Human Resources and organizational leadership to address staffing, performance, and employee relations matters.
Infection Prevention and Safety
- Serve as the facility’s certified Infection Preventionist and lead the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
- Oversee infection surveillance, prevention activities, education, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with Human Resources in administering tuberculosis (TB) screening requirements for employees whose roles directly or indirectly impact the Skilled Nursing Facility, including conducting screenings, communicating results, and supporting compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Promote safe practices and support staff education related to infection prevention, outbreak response, and resident safety.
Operations, Compliance, and Quality
- Ensure nursing services comply with federal, state, and organizational standards.
- Lead survey readiness efforts and support regulatory inspections, audits, and follow-up activities.
- Oversee quality assurance, performance improvement, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with organizational leadership to strengthen resident outcomes, operational effectiveness, and regulatory readiness.
Staffing and Scheduling
- Hold primary responsibility for nursing staffing and scheduling practices, ensuring appropriate coverage, regulatory compliance, and operational stability.
- Partner with RN Supervisors to manage staffing needs, scheduling adjustments, attendance concerns, overtime, and agency utilization.
- Support staffing decisions that balance quality care, employee well-being, and financial stewardship.
MDS Oversight and Beacon Partnership
- Serve as Annandale’s internal MDS champion and primary liaison to Beacon, the organization’s outsourced MDS partner.
- Provide oversight of the MDS process by supporting communication, interdisciplinary participation, documentation needs, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with Beacon and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate resident assessments, effective care planning, and quality outcomes.
Communication and Collaboration
- Maintain open communication with Villagers, families, healthcare providers, pharmacy partners, Beacon, and team members.
- Address Villager and family concerns thoughtfully and promptly.
- Foster collaboration across departments to ensure coordinated care and a seamless Villager experience.
Other Responsibilities
- Support organizational initiatives and special projects.
- Perform other duties in the best interest of Annandale Village and the Villagers we serve.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Georgia.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, sub-acute care, rehabilitation, or related healthcare setting.
- Minimum of three (3) years of nursing leadership or management experience.
- Infection Preventionist Certification required or willingness to obtain certification within an established timeframe.
- Strong knowledge of nursing standards, clinical practices, infection prevention, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with MDS, care planning, survey readiness, and interdisciplinary clinical operations preferred.
- Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage complex operations, and support a mission-driven care environment.
Employment Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Georgia Class C Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and acceptable MVR.
- Must pass GBI and FBI background checks, including fingerprinting.
- Must pass drug screening and tuberculosis screening.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist individuals throughout the day.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds independently and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to assist Villagers with mobility, transfers, and transportation needs as needed.
- Ability to safely respond to clinical emergencies and support nursing operations.
- Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and emergency response duties as required.
