Automotive Mechanic

Reports To: Director of Transportation

Role And Purpose: Keep the district's vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational problem.

Qualifications:

Minimum Certification/Education: High School diploma or GED

Valid Texas drivers' license

Certification as a school bus driver

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of vehicle repair and maintenance

Knowledge of tools and maintenance equipment and their uses

Ability to stand, walk, push and pull, lift and carry, stoop, bend and kneel for long periods of time

Positive results on the bus driver's physical examination

Negative results on periodic random or scheduled drug tests

Ability to follow verbal or written instructions

Knowledge to communicate effectively (verbally)

Ability to work independently

Minimum Experience: Three references that have been checked and verified.

Automotive Mechanic Major Responsibilities And Duties:

  1. Present a positive role model for students, co-workers, and the community
  2. Practice standards of cleanliness, health and safety
  3. Maintain proper safety and security precautions to prevent unnecessary or unreasonable risk of injury to self or others
  4. Promote teamwork and interact with courtesy to fellow staff members
  5. Assume responsibility to learn and/or develop any required job skills necessary to satisfactorily perform the job
  6. Attend all staff development and training programs as required
  7. Complete job assignments in a reasonable length of time
  8. Demonstrate sensitivity and fairness to diverse and ethnic backgrounds among students, staff, and community
  9. Use safety equipment such as safety glasses and lifting belts whenever appropriate
  10. Keep in good repair all district automobiles, buses, trucks, tractors, and other automotive vehicles
  11. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment
  12. Establish and maintain an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care
  13. Keep vehicles clean by washing, sweeping, and general cleaning
  14. Demonstrate proper maintenance, care, storage, and use of tools and equipment and materials
  15. Maintain a clean and organized work area
  16. Serve as a substitute bus driver whenever the need arises
  17. Easy to work with; does his/her share of work
  18. Get along well with co-workers and supervisor/foreman
  19. Respond well to constructive suggestions
  20. Use materials and time to best advantage
  21. Is conservative with supplies/materials
  22. Is efficient and shows initiative in the job
  23. Plan for utilization of work to accomplish tasks
  24. Ask questions and solicit help from supervisor/foreman when needed
  25. Show respect and support for the supervisor's/foreman's decision
  26. Follow all safety codes and standards
  27. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and State and Local Board policies
  28. Report to work on time, exhibit reliability for regular and overtime
  29. Maintain a high level of good attendance
  30. Strive to complement CCSIDs total program
  31. Practice rules and regulations regarding Sexual Harassment and FERPA Laws
  32. Perform other duties as assigned

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Automotive diagnostic equipment; wheel balancing equipment; tire repairing equipment; small hand tools; power tools; welding torch; torque wrench; jack and lift equipment; computer and peripherals; school bus and district vehicles.

Posture: Moderate standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions

Motion: Moderate walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; moderate driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
