Cybersecurity Analyst Intern

Position Overview TxDOT is looking for a paid intern to work as a Cybersecurity Analyst in our Cybersecurity Operations Center (CSOC) at TxDOT's Stassney campus in Austin, Texas. The intern will assist the CSOC in protecting TxDOT from cybersecurity attacks, learning how to use a broad suite of security tools, and understanding the effort required to keep TxDOT safe from cyber threats targeting TxDOT each year. During the summer the intern must be able to work in person at the Stassney Campus Monday through Friday during the day. During the school year the intern would be expected to work 20 hours a week on a flexible schedule remotely from their college. The ideal candidate is attending college and pursuing a career in cybersecurity and is looking to get a jump start now. Essential Duties Develop plans to safeguard computer configuration and data files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs. Design, automate, manage, and deploy security applications and infrastructure program activities. Assist in monitoring and analyzing security events and alerts from security tools and information systems. Help triage incidents and document findings, escalating them as needed. Support security assessments, vulnerability and configuration reviews, basic log analysis, and verification of remediation actions. Work with technical teams to resolve non-standard issues while learning agency standards and best practices. Minimum Qualifications Must be enrolled in an engineering or related science degree program in an accredited college or university accepted by TX PELS. Other Conditions Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education including a trade/vocational school, in Texas. Employees at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools. Preferred Qualifications None specified in the posting. Competencies Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools. Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs. Talking—expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words. Close visual acuity—work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Sedentary and light work. Lift up to 20 lbs at a time. Conditions of Employment Job has been identified as physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical. Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions.
