Construction Accountant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Accountant to support our Corporate Controller and oversee key aspects of project accounting across the organization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate and timely month-end close, maintaining job cost integrity, and managing the lifecycle of projects from setup through closeout. This is a senior-level individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities, ideal for someone who thrives in a hands‑on, fast-paced construction environment. Key Responsibilities Assist Corporate Controller with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Prepare and review account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules Manage the job setup process, ensuring accuracy of budgets, cost codes, and contract details Maintain and monitor job cost accounting and ensure data integrity across all active projects Manage project team accounting needs related to owner draws, change orders, contract setup, and other project related items Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards Manage fixed asset records within Sage Fixed Assets software Assist Corporate Controller with annual budgeting process Distribute monthly and ad hoc reporting to operations and project teams Research technical topics such as sales and use tax, B&O tax, GAAP principles, etc., as needed Assist with internal and external audits Additional related duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required) CPA license (strongly preferred) 3–6+ years of accounting experience, preferably in: Construction or project-based accounting Public accounting (strongly preferred) Tax background (a plus) Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas such as Xlookup/Vlookup, Sumifs, If, and other logical formulas, as well as proficiency using pivot tables and other technical functions Strong understanding of job costing, project accounting, and GAAP financial reporting Knowledge of sales, B&O, payroll, and income taxation principles Ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines High level of attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills Effective communication skills, and ability to collaborate cross‑functionally Experience with ERP/Accounting Systems (Viewpoint Vista preferred) Walsh Construction Co. values our diverse communities and is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
