This Welder Helper position supports fabrication and welding operations in a high-performance aerospace manufacturing facility. You will assist skilled welders in producing components used in launch vehicles and ground support equipment, helping with material preparation, shop tool operation, and maintaining a safe, organized workspace. This role is ideal for someone reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to begin or advance a career in welding and fabrication, with strong opportunities to grow into a full-time welder role after demonstrating proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Assist certified welders with the setup, preparation, and execution of welding tasks.
- Prepare materials for welding, including cleaning, grinding, cutting, and fit-up activities.
- Move and stage materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently to support production needs.
- Operate basic shop tools such as grinders, saws, and measuring devices to support fabrication work.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
- Support weld inspections by prepping parts and documenting work as required.
- Follow all safety protocols, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and quality standards at all times.
- Communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, and team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Assist with basic fabrication tasks related to spacecraft and launch hardware as directed.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and reporting issues in processes, safety, or quality.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience in a manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic measurements.
- Basic understanding of shop safety practices and willingness to follow safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Reliability, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with welders, supervisors, and team members.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cocoa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
