Position

The School Counselor will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with approximately 530 exceptional, gifted young men, talented faculty, and committed staff. Located in New York City, Regis High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school and the only Jesuit, full-scholarship high school in the country. The school was founded in 1914 through the extraordinary generosity of an anonymous woman and her family. Regis now relies on philanthropy of alumni, parents, and friends as its most significant source of financial support. Position Summary

The School Counselor is a full-time faculty member who supports the academic, personal, social, and spiritual growth of students. Working closely with students, families, faculty, academic advisors, and administrators, the counselor provides individual counseling, teaches seminar classes, monitors student progress, and helps navigate academic and developmental challenges. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and compassionate educator who understands the needs of adolescents and school culture and who plans and communicates effectively. 

This is a full-time faculty position, beginning August 31. Work hours may vary and may include some evenings and weekends for special school events. Salary is very competitive for the New York City area and is commensurate with experience. 

Job Responsibilities

• Committed to advancing the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school. 
• Serve as a liaison with academic advisors, classroom teachers, and administrators to aid in facilitating the students’ academic, emotional, social, and spiritual development.
• Devote energies to teaching and counseling in alignment with school policies. 
• Schedule one-on-one counseling sessions (at least one per trimester) on issues ranging from family and personal development to academic planning, standardized test interpretation, and general progress and performance.
• Accommodate unscheduled one-on-one “drop in” sessions during the school day, as necessary, and be generally available to the students through the school day when not teaching class. Counselors are expected to be available one day a week until 4:00 PM.
• Attend regular school counseling department meetings and collaborate with the college counseling department.
• Serve as a member of the Student Services Committee to share and provide input on students in need of additional support.
• Maintain regular contact with parents.
• Organize meetings with the academic advisors during the school year to discuss student progress. 
• Identify and assist students in academic difficulty.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date files on students, incorporating notes from individual meetings. 
• Display competent and current knowledge of therapeutic supports and counseling practices through professional education opportunities.
• Perform services around the building, including substitution and proctoring. 
• Participate in ongoing professional development activities.
• Collaborate with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which Regis stands, and conduct themselves at all times in a manner that shall not bring reproach upon themselves or the institution.
• Attend events listed in the school’s Employee Handbook under “Faculty Staff Participation in Key Events,” attend faculty meetings, and participate in other such professional incidental services, in the judgment of the Principal, and as the needs of the school require.
• Other job responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

Experience working with adolescents in a school setting

Excellent organization and communication skills 

Demonstrated classroom teaching experience

Experience with PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP counseling and college guidance counseling

Familiarity with and understanding of practical uses of technology for instruction

Education

Masters Degree in Counseling or Social Work

Successful school counseling experience (middle school, high school, or higher education)

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range $74,921 - $154,642, commensurate with experience.

Most benefits go into effect immediately. Participation in the 403 (b) occurs after one year of employment.

Status

This is a full time, 10-month position.

Reporting structure

Reports directly to the Chair of School Counseling and the Principal.
