More than 2,500 team members at more than 70 Tidelands Health locations bring our healing mission to life each day.A Brief OverviewThe Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) participates in planning and implementing patient care under the supervision of the Circulating Registered Nurse and based on the Nursing Process. The CST assists the surgeon during operative procedures, ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure, monitors PAR levels of supplies and equipment, and participates in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.What you will doChecks Genesis container to ensure filter and cover are properly seeded.Tests equipment for proper functioning and availability.Assists the Circulator in proper positioning of the patient.Followed preference card in opening/ have-in-room supplies. Participate in preference card updatesDemonstrated proper scrub/sterile techniques.Appropriately notify the Circulator regarding a break in sterilization or asepticEnsures case cart is complete; checks supplies; pulls instruments as appropriate for the procedure.Restocks room and returns supplies appropriately following procedure.Demonstrates competence in proper handling, labeling, transporting and logging of specimens.Education QualificationsAssociate's Degree with a certification from an accredited Surgical Technician educational program RequiredExperience QualificationsMinimum of 15 hours CEU’s annually (regardless if employed or not with TH throughout the entire calendar year) RequiredSkills and AbilitiesWorks with patients, families and other health care providers.Knowledge in labeling medications/solutions in the sterile field.Licenses and CertificationsCertified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting from an accredited Surgical Technician educational program. Become certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology within 90 calendar days from graduation orCertified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting by the US Army, Navy, Air Force, marine Corps, Coast Guard or US Public Health Service orHave evidence that the individual was employed to practice as a Surgical Technician in a South Carolina Healthcare facility or the federal government prior to Jan 1, 2008 (a break in service will not disqualify the individual if employment as a Surgical Technician is documented prior to Jan 1, 2008)Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire.
