Histology Technician I (Overnight Shift)

Position Summary The Histology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests, interpret results, and release test results. Responsibilities Embedd samples by orienting tissues in molds and adding Paraffin wax. Provide quality embedding, accurately embed up to 60 blocks per hour, unload Tissue Processer, and scan barcoded cassette in Antrim for the appropriate worklist. Maintain embedding station per Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocols. Meet minimum department production goals; prioritize stat and manifest blocks. Reconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completed. Operate Roche Benchmark special stain instrument and perform manual stains as required. Calibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance. Exercise judgment in evaluating and reporting results; report any technical/QC problems to lead tech or supervisor. Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within the department/lab. Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work area; restock supplies as needed. Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation. Consult with senior peers on non‑complex tasks to learn through experience. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required; B.S. in Biology or Life Sciences preferred. Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments. Familiar with care and use of microtome, embedding stations and staining equipment. Willingness to perform detailed, repetitive tasks to established benchmarks. Knowledge of lab equipment and procedures; medical and laboratory terminology; histology procedures and equipment. Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment. Effective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information. Proficiency in English sufficient for team meetings, data entry, and written directions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; positive, can‑do attitude. Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Work Environment Stationary position; remain stationary for up to 2 hours. Operate computer and lab equipment accurately and efficiently. Occasionally bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch; lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. Observe details at close range. Extended hours may be needed. Laboratory environments with potential biohazards mitigated by mandatory PPE. Work under close to moderate supervision. Potential exposure to agents causing zoonotic disease and hazardous chemicals as defined by National Hazard Communication Standards. Compensation Work Shift: Wednesday – Sunday 12:30am to 9am. Target Pay: $27.31 per hour.
