Dotted-Line Reporting: Maintenance Manager

Position Summary
The Maintenance & Operations Supervisor (2nd Shift) is a hands-on leadership position responsible for equipment reliability, maintenance activities, and supporting production operations during second shift at our frozen food French fry manufacturing facility.
This role is ideal for an experienced maintenance professional who is ready to take the next step into leadership. The successful candidate will spend the majority of the shift on the production floor troubleshooting equipment, performing hands-on maintenance, supporting production employees, and resolving issues that impact safety, quality, and productivity.
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Maintenance Manager, this individual will provide operational leadership while production is running and lead all maintenance activities throughout the shift. Essential Responsibilities
Maintenance Leadership

• Lead all maintenance activities during second shift to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
• Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance on production equipment.
• Respond promptly to equipment failures and production interruptions, personally troubleshooting and repairing equipment whenever practical to maintain production schedules.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and process issues.
• Prioritize maintenance activities while balancing production requirements.
• Coordinate outside service providers when necessary.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment repair documentation.
• Recommend improvements that enhance equipment reliability and plant performance.
• Partner with the Maintenance Manager to execute preventive maintenance programs, support equipment improvements, and maintain maintenance standards.

Operations Support & Leadership

• Provide operational leadership during active production while supporting safety, quality, and production goals.
• Supervise, coach, and support production employees during the operating portion of second shift.
• Monitor production performance and respond quickly to operational issues.
• Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and product changeovers.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, GMP, HACCP, and sanitation requirements.
• Communicate production performance, maintenance activities, and shift turnover information to management.
• Make sound operational decisions that support safety, product quality, production goals, and equipment reliability.

Leadership & Safety

• Serve as the primary maintenance leader during second shift.
• Lead from the production floor through visibility, engagement, and hands-on support.
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and respect.
• Train, coach, and develop production and maintenance team members.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and standard operating procedures.
• Investigate equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.
• Build strong communication between first and second shift to ensure seamless operations.

Qualifications
Required

• Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in a food processing or industrial manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading maintenance technicians and/or production employees in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Experience maintaining conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and industrial production equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

• Experience in frozen food, potato processing, or other food manufacturing environments.
• PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley or similar).
• Industrial electrical troubleshooting experience (480V preferred).
• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
• Ability to climb ladders and perform hands-on maintenance tasks.
