Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Congressional Affairs This announcement will be open for 5 business days OR until the first 100 applications have been received, whichever happens first. Responsibilities This position is located within the Office of Congressional Affairs (OCA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Office of Congressional Affairs is responsible for advising CBP managers on legislative affairs and congressional matters and for assisting Members of Congress and their staffs in understanding current and proposed CBP programs. This position starts at a salary of $169,279.00 (GS-15, Step 1) to $197,200.00 (GS-15, Step 10) with promotion potential to $197,200 (GS-15 Step 10). Typical duties include: Providing assistance to management officials in planning, directing, and coordinating congressional liaison activities. Developing and maintains awareness of program philosophies, mission, special interests, and areas of concern to support congressional relations. Establishing and sustains effective relationships for information exchange between Congress and the organization, including conducting briefings and providing analysis of programs and legislative matters. Overseeing the development of program plans, assesses progress, and manages external relationships related to congressional affairs. Performing the full range of supervisory duties over staff engaged in congressional liaison activities, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Provides assistance to management officials in planning, directing, and coordinating congressional liaison activities. Develops and maintains awareness of program philosophies, mission, special interests, and areas of concern to support congressional relations. Establishes and sustains effective relationships for information exchange between Congress and the organization, including conducting briefings and providing analysis of programs and legislative matters. Oversees the development of program plans, assesses progress, and manages external relationships related to congressional affairs. Performs the full range of supervisory duties over staff engaged in congressional liaison activities, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 06/01/2026. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
