At Saline High School
The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech/Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the school district.

Qualifications Required Education/Certification
- Certification/License: Current ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) Certification
- Possess experience with computer instruction and technology.
- Possess the skills and desire to work in a collaborative team with others.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the teacher's role in a team environment.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in the school setting.
- Prior experience with Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC) Systems/Devices
Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
- Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
- Conduct speech and language screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for educational services.
- Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
- Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and reevaluation process.
- Participate in the development of student Individualized Education Program (IEPs).
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
- Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
- Develops and administers curriculum consistent with Saline Area Schools goals and objectives.
- Promotes a learning environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develops plans and instructional materials and translates plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for learning.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the speech pathology field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, progress monitoring, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Participates in district-level staff meetings, in-service activities, staff development, special programs, school improvement teams, and planning committees as appropriate to the assignment.
- Adheres to District health and safety rules, policies, and procedures.
- Performs other tasks as assigned

- Effectively utilize district technology resources, computer network systems, and relevant software to support the learning community.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and administrators through respectful verbal and written communication.
- Prioritize, organize, and manage multiple responsibilities while meeting established deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
- Engage in continuous professional reflection and self-evaluation to enhance effectiveness, leadership, and professional growth.
- Maintain organized work areas, accurate records, effective routines, and efficient time-management practices that align with district and school expectations, and maximize efficiency.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, inclusive, and emotionally supportive working environment.
- Effectively manage and maintain resources, technology, equipment, and materials to support responsible stewardship of district resources.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Work in standard office and school building environments that require mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina, and environmental awareness.
Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, AAC devices, and telephones.
Travel
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Work Schedule
As outlined in the Saline Education Association (SEA) Master Agreement and building schedule of assignment.
