Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

The Counselor position provides short-term, solution-focused counseling services within a workplace support program to assist team members experiencing personal or work-related challenges that may impact well-being, attendance, job performance, or workplace functioning. This role delivers structured support within a defined session model and collaborates with internal partners to promote employee well-being, resilience, and retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conducts structured intake assessments to identify immediate concerns, strengths, and goal areas.
2. Provides short-term, goal-oriented counseling services using evidence-based, solution-focused approaches.
3. Assists team members in developing practical coping strategies through psychoeducation and brief skill-building interventions to address stress, interpersonal conflict, work-life balance concerns, and barriers impacting workplace or personal functioning.
4. Maintains appropriate professional boundaries and scope of practice consistent with licensure standards.
5. Identifies when concerns exceed scope of short-term workplace counseling and facilitates referrals to external mental health providers as appropriate.
6. Provides crisis support within scope and follows established protocols for safety concerns.
7. Collaborates with management, HR, and internal support programs, as appropriate and consistent with confidentiality, consent, and professional practice standards.
8. Maintains timely, accurate, and confidential documentation in accordance with organizational policy and licensure requirements.
9. Meets established program metrics related to engagement, service utilization, and goal attainment.
10. Upholds ethical standards and maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and professional guidelines.
11. Provides appropriate referrals to community resources to address identified needs and facilitates linkage to services as needed.
12. Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Master's degree in counseling, social work, or related behavioral health field required.
2. Current licensure in the State of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) is required.
3. Minimum of 2 years providing counseling services with experience delivering brief, solution-focused or short-term service settings preferred.
4. Experience working with diverse and non-traditional populations is required. Knowledge of and experience working with individuals facing complex barriers (e.g., substance use history, incarceration, domestic violence, trauma) strongly preferred.
5. Strong clinical assessment skills with ability to determine scope and appropriate referral.
6. Excellent documentation skills are required, including consistent completion of timely, accurate, and thorough notes that meet organizational, ethical, and licensure standards.
7. Advanced interpersonal skills with ability to build trust and rapport, while maintaining professional boundaries.
8. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and trauma-informed approaches when supporting diverse populations.
9. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, such as behavioral health services, federal/state/local assistance programs, housing and utility assistance, and disability benefits and ability to coordinate referrals.
10. Bilingual in English/Spanish is helpful and preferred.
11. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and the ability to maintain accurate documentation within electronic documentation systems.
12. Position requires frequent travel between various Goodwill locations. A valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance coverage are required.
