This position includes engineering tasks with varying levels of complexity, which are assigned by a Mechanical Engineer or Project Manager. The BIM Designer may work independently on small tasks and may assist senior BIM Designers on larger, more complex projects. The design projects this individual will support include a variety of market sectors: Technology, Corporate/Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power, and Federal.As a Mechanical BIM Designer, your responsibilities under the direction of a Mechanical Engineer will include:Work for a specific discipline, with minimal direction from the Architect/Engineer, or other technical professionalBe responsible for their discipline model and will generate the BIM elements, based on the Level of Development (LOD) outlined in the Digital Delivery Plan (DDP) and project scope Create and maintain the discipline model, systems, content, and overall digital delivery output for that disciplineTo be skilled with the software used to produce the designs identified in the Digital Delivery requirementsHave an advanced understanding of architectural/engineering documentation, plan presentation for the specific discipline design, and how it interacts with other discipline modelsAccurately model BIM elements in the correct special constraints of the modeling environment, using the current 3D softwarePrepare detailed drawings, layouts, & diagrams of the design within the project scope, schedule, and budget, using the current 3D softwareMaintain the discipline model including project information, coordinates, scales, orientations, scope boundaries, match-lines, views, and sheetsProduce discipline specific documentation with accurate annotations on all modeling outputMonitor, improve, and maintain company standards and model health. Coordinate the design with other discipline models through Design Reviews and 3D Coordination processesExecute all Digital Delivery requirements identified on the projectPrepare complete computational models of mechanical and plumbing systems for facilities within the following markets: Technology, Corporate/Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power, and Federal.Prepare drawings within a 2D and 3D model space for HVAC ductwork layout plans, HVAC piping layout plans, piping isometrics, mechanical equipment arrangements, and other detailed drawings required for fabrication and construction under the supervision of a Mechanical Designer or EngineerPrepare drawings within a 2D and 3D model space for plumbing piping layout plans, piping diagrams, equipment arrangements, piping isometrics, and other detailed drawings required for fabrication and construction under the supervision of a Mechanical Designer or EngineerRoute ductwork and piping in 3D model spaceConduct short-term field assignments at client facilities to support project work as neededPerform routine HVAC/mechanical and plumbing design assignments requiring application of standard techniques and proceduresWork independently on small HVAC/mechanical and plumbing design projects or assist more-senior BIM designers on larger HVAC/mechanical and plumbing design projects through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a projectCoordinate workload to complete the documents on scheduleComplete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variablesReview mechanical and plumbing documents for areas of conflict with all disciplinesProvide construction administration support as neededGive direction to clerical and technical personnel as neededPerform other duties as neededPreferred QualificationsAssociate degree in Building Information Modeling (BIM) preferredPrevious experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firmStrong computer/software skills Revit MEP, Microsoft Office, AutoCADDatabase familiarity a plusPreference given to local candidatesPrevious experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firmExperience in sustainable design/LEED desired, but not requiredExperience in BIM modelling of mechanical systems: HVAC, plumbing, and/or process pipingAn attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a mustQualificationsRequired Qualifications Technical degree or a combination of education and related industry experienceA minimum of 5 years related industry experienceAdvanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructureAdvanced skillset of 3D Coordination toolCompetency of Microsoft Office products and communication toolsAdvanced understanding of engineering or architectural conceptsKnowledge of industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specificationsExcellent communication skills, attention to detail and organizational traits are essentialWhat We BelieveHDR is our company.
