Backend Engineer

Backend Engineer Location: New York City Impact & Opportunity We are building modern, end‑to‑end payment infrastructure to increase nonprofit revenue and improve operational efficiency for thousands of charities. With a mission to change the way charitable payments are handled, we have integrated over 85% of the DAF market, onboarded more than 60,000 nonprofits, and serve leading fundraising platforms. Responsibilities Build and manage back‑end server applications and components that comprise the Chariot platform. Contribute to the architecture and design of APIs, back‑end systems, and applications, and help define team standards and best practices. Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies. Improve real‑time and analytical monitoring and alerting to better understand user behaviors and iterate on the product. Communicate effectively with founders, product managers, and other software developers. Manage and execute project plans and delivery commitments within an Agile/Scrum environment. Qualifications 4+ years of software development experience in one or more programming languages. 2+ years of backend application development building performant and scalable back‑end systems. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent work experience. Highly proficient with Go, Node, Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes. Experience with PostgreSQL (RDBMS), REST APIs, and gRPC. Strong sense of responsibility and ability to drive a project from inception to completion. Experience in fintech, payments, and the nonprofit sector is a plus. Experience building secure and scalable applications on AWS is a plus. Employee Benefits Comprehensive healthcare, including options that are 100% covered by Chariot.
