Advanced Provider Nurse Practitioner

The Occupational Nurse Practitioner serves as a healthcare provider, safety inspector, educator, and architect of new health and safety measures. Objectives of this role Provide treatment and physicals to sick or injured patients. Document and report observations and any treatment provided. Credential The NP shall possess an appropriate nursing degree. The NP shall be licensed through the Louisiana or Texas state board and maintain active certification with the AANP. If the NP provides direct medical care outside Louisiana, the NP must obtain the license from the respective state board where the patient is located at the time of service. Other Requirements The NP shall be available to other medical providers by telephone on a 24/7 basis. If the NP is unavailable for more than one day, the NP must make arrangements for coverage and notify the medical provider coordinator or the operation manager prior to the lack of availability. The NP shall maintain professional liability insurance at all times with an insurer acceptable by Prime Occupational Medicine. The NP will have privileges at all Prime Occupational Medicine facilities as approved by administration. The NP shall establish a collaborating physician relationship with all active full‑time physicians of Prime, as approved by LSBN. Clinical practice guidelines are mutually agreed between the CP and the NP and maintained on site. Both the NP and SP acknowledge their mutual obligations to comply with all professional and occupational standards as outlined by the state board of nursing. Duty Locations NP shall provide outpatient services at locations assigned by Prime management. The locations shall be in compliance with the NP's state license. NP Clinical Function The NP will function within the scope of practice with appropriate NP direction on an as‑needed basis, including but not limited to the following functions: Take pertinent histories and perform examinations relevant to patient complaints, including physicals, return‑to‑work, and fitness‑for‑duty evaluations. Order and interpret routine laboratory tests (CBCs, blood chemistries, UA, other necessary diagnostic labs). Order and interpret routine radiological studies, pulmonary function tests, and audiograms. Establish medical diagnoses and determine a plan of care and treatment. Refer patients for appropriate follow‑up care when indicated. Deliver and document all aspects of patient care according to Prime standards. Provide patient education and counseling relevant to presenting problems. Document discharge instructions and summary. Provide other clinical services appropriate to the patient and within scope of practice. Description Of Other Duties The NP will practice under the supervision of an approved SP, either onsite or via telecommunications. Review NP histories of patients with complicated encounters. Diagnose or treat patients requiring NP direction. Verify that delegated prescriptive authority is documented per guidelines. Follow supervised physician or senior physician protocols for prescribing medication and medical devices as allowed by limits. Order diagnostic tests as appropriate. Manage patient care if facility closed, ensuring patients are referred to emergency departments. Maintain comprehensive documentation of patient records, prescriptions, and orders. Ensure availability of a licensed MD or DO on shift as required by LSBN. Adhere to LSBN rules and guidelines including review of written entries. Work holidays and take callouts as needed. Be willing to work at other Prime locations. Required Skills And Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited nursing program. RN licensure in the state of employment or a compact state, board‑certified by ANCC or AANP. Prescriptive authorization. Sound understanding of federal and state regulations (HIPAA, OSHA). Proven experience as a nurse practitioner. Teamwork, empathy, situational awareness, decision‑making, triage, physical stamina, mental toughness. Ability to prioritize decisions and act quickly for patient benefit. Focus, organization, self‑discipline, knowledge of procedures, terminology, and medications. Ability to stay calm and make right decisions in adverse conditions. Adaptability and stamina. Excellent knowledge of medical equipment and devices. Integrity and compassion. Valid driver's license. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ethics, cultural awareness. Aptitude for problem‑solving and thorough knowledge of clinic procedures and policies. Advanced knowledge of occupational medicine or clinic setting and ability to learn new systems. Preferred Skills And Qualifications Resourceful mindset and strong attention to detail. Knowledge of local, state, and national laws and regulations related to employment. Physical Demands Standing, walking, and lifting up to 75 pounds across prolonged periods; operating office equipment; driving vehicles; performing precise manual tasks; extensive computer use; maintaining visual acuity for data analysis; performing repetitive motions in awkward positions.
