Kensington Golf & Country Club is in search of a strategic financial leader to serve as its next Director of Finance & Accounting (DOFA). Reporting to the General Manager (GM), the DOFA will work alongside the GM to meet the expectations and goals set forth by the Board and to brainstorm ways to \"wow\" the membership. Overall, the DOFA serves as a trusted advisor to the Board, a financial thought partner to the GM, a business partner and resource to the department heads and leadership team, and a supervisor and mentor to the finance and accounting team. This individual must be able to respectfully communicate financial information to people at every level of financial acumen. The DOFA will oversee precise financial operations, including budgeting, financial statements, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and expense reports, and will ensure the timely completion of annual financial audits. A strong budgeting background is essential. As a key member of the leadership team, the DOFA will provide financial support to all management teams, including Golf and Greens, Facilities Maintenance, Court Sports, Fitness, Pool, and Food and Beverage, and will oversee all financial aspects of Kensington Golf & Country Club. KEY PRIORITIES FOR THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & ACCOUNTING STRATEGIC GUIDANCE Direct financial operations with the GM of the Club. Formulate, receive, and recommend policies for approval relating to accounting and auditing, the budget, revenue, and cost control procedures. Develop, implement, and maintain planning and budgeting processes that are proactive, structured, and transparent. Work collaboratively with the GM and Department Managers so operating decisions have a sound financial basis and results are understood and used for future improvement. Analyze cash flow, cost control, and expenses to pinpoint potential areas for improvement. Adjust reporting and analysis depth relative to the materiality of business decisions. Take a proactive, data-driven approach to advising the GM, Department Managers, Board Members, and the Finance Chair. Incorporate AI/Business Intelligence and technology to produce effective financial presentations and projections. Ensure the reporting needs of the Board and Members are met on time and in support of favorable committee and member relations. Work with the GM to deliver the budget to the Board, explain variances, and advocate for line items as needed. Anticipate unfavorable results or variances; research them and offer preliminary explanations and appropriate countermeasures. Oversee the Club’s Capital Reserve process, which is integral to the long-term success of the Club. Ensure the process is used throughout the Club to inform and manage capital spending. Tap into and become familiar with industry resources, benchmarks, and best practices to support and substantiate financial recommendations. Aid the GM in translating the Club's strategic planning model into comprehensive but easy-to-understand financial documents that make sense at every level of financial acumen and maintain them as a living resource for present and future strategic planning. LEADERSHIP Serve as an engaged leader with a solid financial vision who will drive financial controls and results, offering consistency, timeliness, and accuracy of finances and reporting. Participate in Finance Committee and Board of Directors meetings; listen, provide input, and communicate and defend data-driven recommendations that may differ from governance respectfully, confidently, and professionally. Support monthly reviews with management teams; provide weekly reporting and monthly forecasting of the financial and operational outlook vs. targets; and deliver month-end financials to department heads to review variances together before results go to the Board. Strive daily to enhance the member experience in any aspect of billing, charges, or financial interaction with the Club. Motivate people to think differently and be skilled at pushing department heads and the finance team to think critically and take accountability. TAX, BENEFITS, BUDGETS, REPORTING Oversee the employer 401K plan. Review investment decisions by investment advisors. Ensure bi-annual reporting is completed for the Finance Committee. Oversee the reconciliation of bank accounts and approve transfers as needed throughout the year. Prepare 1099s, W-2s, and other year-end reports for submission, and complete and maintain year-end audits with the CPA firm. Ensure all federal, state, payroll, sales, and occupancy taxes are paid on time; prepare monthly journal entries. Maintain awareness of current tax law changes that impact the Club and leverage them for reporting advantages. Analyze general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
