Senior Maintenance Mechanic

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Gulf Correctional Institution in Gulf County. The purpose of this position is to perform and oversee complex auto repair and maintenance tasks while instructing and supervising inmates, ensuring vehicle upkeep, safety, and rehabilitation progress under the supervision of the Automotive Equipment Maintenance Superintendent.

Job duties include repairing and maintaining vehicles, teaching and supervising inmates in complex auto repair skills, planning and scheduling repair work, ordering parts, and making sure vehicles get regular maintenance on time. Records of inmate progress for rehabilitation and tracks vehicle maintenance costs and usage according to department rules. Supervises inmates during work, maintaining control and safety following all procedures.

Requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent, minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance. In accordance with Chapter 322, Florida Statutes and dependent upon assigned location, this position may require a Commercial Driver License. Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
