Adult Services & Reference Library Assistant – Denville Public Library Now Hiring: Adult Services & Reference Library Assistant Position Type: Part-Time (approx. 16–24 hours/week) Starting Salary: $17.55/hour Are you passionate about helping others, a wiz at troubleshooting everyday technology, and someone who loves a good book recommendation? The Denville Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic, community-minded individual to join our Adult Services Team as a Library Assistant. In this role, you will be the friendly face helping our patrons navigate everything from deep-dive reference questions to formatting documents, while playing an active role in keeping our community engaged through adult programming and outreach. What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities): Patron Support & Reference: Provide top-tier customer service, answering a wide variety of questions and offering “reader’s advisory” (helping patrons find their next great read!). Tech Rescue: Act as the go-to helper for patrons navigating basic technology, including printing, formatting Word documents, using social media, and navigating websites. Creativity & Programming: Help design eye-catching flyers, promote upcoming library events, and collaborate on exciting programs and outreach tailored for adult audiences. Library Maintenance: Keep our collection organized by shelving returned books and assisting with collection development or other special library projects. What We’re Looking For (Requirements): Exceptional People Skills: A welcoming, patient demeanor with a strong commitment to customer service. Tech-Savvy: Solid computer skills, including comfort with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, WordPress, and digital library resources. Familiarity with KOHA or other Library system A Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) Background Check: Candidates must successfully pass a background check and fingerprinting prior to employment. Schedule & Hours: This part-time position requires a mix of day, evening, and weekend hours: Monday: 9-1 Tuesday: 1-5 Thursday: 5-9 Friday: 9-1 One Satuday a month: 9-5 Note: Occasional additional hours may be requested to help cover team absences or special events.
