UC Riverside's Auxiliary Facilities Services is recruiting for a Painter. The full salary range for the Painter is $42.27 - $47.57 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. The Painter performs journey-level work related to preparing and painting walls, ceilings, floors, woodwork, stucco and masonry for interior and exterior Auxiliary facilities. The Painter will install, finish and patch/repair drywall and stucco walls. Applies paints, stains, and other topcoats and finishes with rollers, brushes and sprayers. Responsible for following all safety procedures while performing tasks related to the painting trade; such as but not limited to preparation of areas prior to painting, mixing paints and applying paints to all types of surfaces. Maintains clear and accurate documentation of all operating data, inspections, testing and maintenance (corrective and/or preventative) performed. Updates equipment documentation, specifications and drawings, as needed. Reviews and updates all shop logs, both paper and electronic according to updates and changes. Responds to emergency situations to mitigate and/or resolve immediate paint concerns or safety issues. Reviews blueprints/drawings, and specifications for new construction and retrofit/renovation projects according to building code requirements. Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purposes of resolving immediate safety concerns. Performs all job duties in adherence with University and departmental safety guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students. Educational Requirements

High School Diploma. - Preferred

Completion of a certified apprenticeship program. - Preferred

Experience Requirements

4 years of journey-level experience in the painting skilled trade related to maintenance repair and construction and/or completion of a certified apprenticeship program; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. - Required

Experience in the proper and safe usage for paints, solvents, chemicals common to the painting skilled trade. - Required

Experience with colorants, paints, primers, solvents, patching compounds, sealers, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, and thinners. - Required

Experience operating shop equipment, power and hand tools common to the skilled trade, including but not limited to rollers, brushes, airless and conventional sprayers, hammers, screwdrivers, sanders, scrapers, grinders, wall texturing machines, pressure washers, etc. - Required

Possess the skills, knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. - Required

Experience in safe and proper procedures with removal/abatement of lead based paint. - Preferred

Experience and/or certification of training in fork lifts, lifts and/or boom truck operations. - Preferred

Experience and ability to prioritize work orders, routine work, emergency requests and ability to choose the proper materials or equipment to accomplish work in the most expeditious and safe manner. - Preferred

Experience working with a diverse student, staff, faculty and visitor population and ability to provide exemplary customer service. - Preferred

License Requirements

Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. - Required

Certification Requirements

Lead abatement certification. - Preferred

Special Conditions

Hired candidate must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment start date. - Required

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge and ability to properly and safely use paints, solvents, chemicals common to the painting skilled trade.

Knowledge and ability to properly and safely work with colorants, paints, primers, solvents, patching compounds, sealers, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, and thinners.

Skill in operating shop equipment and tools common to the skilled trade. Skilled use of power and hand tools related to maintenance/painting including but not limited to rollers, brushes, airless and conventional sprayers, hammers, screwdrivers, sanders, scrapers, grinders, wall texturing machines, pressure washers, etc.

Ability to effectively communicate and understand safety regulations and hazards.

Ability to estimate time, methods and materials needed from construction documents. Ability to read and understanding documents such as complex technical procedures, work instructions, blue prints, plans, manuals, specifications, and diagrams.

Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations.

Ability to communicate and work effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and provide exceptional customer service.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to record information accurately as is necessary to perform the job responsibilities.

Willingness and ability to work weekends and holidays. Ability to work occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime, emergency call-back, and a flexible schedule as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge and ability to properly and safely apply proper procedures with removal/abatement of lead based paint.

Knowledge in safe and proper procedures when hazardous materials are suspected.

Basic knowledge and technical skills with computer programs and applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Design Cad 2, etc.).

Knowledge of UC/UCR policies and systems.
